Resilient hepatic mitochondrial function and lack of iNOS dependence in diet-induced insulin resistance.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Obesity-derived inflammation and metabolic dysfunction has been related to the activity of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). To understand the interrelation between metabolism, obesity and NO., we evaluated the effects of obesity-induced NO ...

Differential signaling of inducible nitric oxide synthase induction in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infected alveolar epithelial cell line A549 in response to cytokines IFN-γ, TNF-α and IL-1β

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mycobacteriology, 2014
Background: In earlier studies, it was shown that ex vivo Mycobacterium tuberculosis-infected type II alveolar epithelial cells generate de novo nitric oxide (NO), but the mycobactericidal quantity of NO was released only by stimulation of these cells ...

Anaphylactic shock depends on endothelial Gq/G11 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Anaphylactic shock is a severe allergic reaction involving multiple organs including the bronchial and cardiovascular system. Most anaphylactic mediators, like platelet-activating factor (PAF), histamine, and others, act through G protein – coupled ...

TWEAK/Fn14 Signaling Drives Oxidative Cardiac Injury in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Evidence From Patient Biomarker Studies, Lupus Mouse Models, and Cardiomyocyte Assays

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Cardiac involvement is a major cause of morbidity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Tumor necrosis factor–like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) is elevated in SLE, but its contribution to lupus‐associated cardiac injury is unclear. We investigated the role of TWEAK/fibroblast growth factor–inducible 14 (Fn14) signaling in SLE‐related ...

Luteoloside Inhibits IL-1β-Induced Apoptosis and Catabolism in Nucleus Pulposus Cells and Ameliorates Intervertebral Disk Degeneration

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
Intervertebral disk degeneration (IDD) is the major cause of low back pain (LBP), which affects 80% of the world’s population. Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) is a major inflammatory factor that accelerates disk degeneration, and IL-1β levels increase in ...

ANK1 and EPB41 Variants and the Risk of Steroid‐Induced Osteonecrosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Steroid‐induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is a refractory skeletal disorder influenced by genetic and environmental factors. However, conclusive pathogenic genetic evidence remains elusive due to the limited exploration of rare damaging variants. In this study, we aimed to identify rare variants associated with SONFH.

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase Gene Polymorphism (G894T) and Diabetes Mellitus (Type II) among South Indians

open access: yes, 2020
The objective of the study is to find out whether the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) G894T single-nucleotide polymorphism is associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in South Indian (Tamil) population.
