Corn response to biological products and a nitrification inhibitor

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment
Atmospheric nitrogen (N2) is converted into ammonia (NH3), a form that plants can use, through biological nitrogen (N) fixation by various microorganisms and bacterial genera.

Optimizing nitrogen fertilization in maize: the impact of nitrification inhibitors, phosphorus application, and microbial interactions on enhancing nutrient efficiency and crop performance

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Despite the essential role of nitrogen fertilizers in achieving high crop yields, current application practices often exhibit low efficiency. Optimizing nitrogen (N) fertilization in agriculture is, therefore, critical for enhancing crop productivity ...

Fiber‐Based Wearable Electronics as Adaptive Biointerfaces for Healthcare Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fiber‐based wearable electronics have been extensively studied as adaptive healthcare biointerfaces. In this review, we classify and introduce fiber‐based systems according to biointerface design, conductive materials, transduction mechanisms, and healthcare applications, and provide a perspective on their translation toward reliable, continuous ...

Structure‐Property Relationships in Catecholamine Coatings for Broad Surface Functionalization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs), six catecholamine molecules with different molecular structure were systematically characterized and compared based on their ability to form homogeneous, reactive coatings. Highlighting candidates capable of balancing coating properties of interest, their successful use as primer layers for organic and ...

Antagonistic Effect of Microplastic Polyvinyl Chloride and Nitrification Inhibitor on Soil Nitrous Oxide Emission: An Overlooked Risk of Microplastic to the Agrochemical Effectiveness

open access: yes
Microplastics are widely persistent in agricultural ecosystems and may affect soil nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. Nitrification inhibitor 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) is applied to decelerate nitrification and reduce soil N2O emission ...

Effects of the nitrification inhibitor 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) on abundance and activity of ammonia oxidizers in soil

open access: yes, 2014
International audienceRecent evidence from several environments suggest that besides autotrophic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) are also able to perform the oxidation of NH4 (+) to NO2 (-), although the relative ...

Biodegradable 3D‐Printable and Coatable Antifouling Composites for Marine Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Marine biofouling damages submerged surfaces and raises greenhouse gas emissions. Biodegradable antifouling biocomposites were developed by hot‐mixing beeswax, Tween 80, and calcium stearate or stearic acid. Adjusting the component ratio enables processing via hot‐pressing, 3D‐printing, or dip‐coating.

Nitrogen Inhibitors Enhance Photosynthetic Potential by Delaying Maize Leaf Senescence Under Fertigation

open access: yesFood and Energy Security
Unreasonable nitrogen fertilizer use intensifies nitrogen losses, resulting in environmental contamination. Nitrification inhibitors and urease inhibitors are widely employed to reduce environmental pollution and enhance nitrogen use efficiency. However,

A comparison of two nitrification inhibitors used to measure nitrification rates in estuarine sediments

open access: yes, 1995
Nitrification rates were measured using intact sediment cores from South San Francisco Bay and two different nitrification inhibitors: acetylene and methyl fluoride.

High‐Efficiency Quantum Defect Generation in Carbon Nanotubes via Oxygen‐Free Photochemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We show that oxygen plays an important role in quantum defect formation in carbon nanotubes and identify reaction conditions to create a range of different quantum defects for photonics and biosensing. ABSTRACT Single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) offer potential for a wide range of applications from optoelectronic devices to biomedical diagnostics.
