Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Killing of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus-infected fibroblasts during latent infection by activated natural killer cells. [PDF]
Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) establishes life-long infection by evading clearance by the host immune system. In de novo infection and lytic replication, KSHV escapes cytotoxic T cells and NK cells through downregulation of MHC class-I ...

EZH2 identifies the precursors of human natural killer cells with trained immunity
Objective: Trained immunity of natural killer (NK) cells has shown great potential in the treatment of cancers by eliciting enhanced effector responses to restimulation by cytokines or cancer cells for long time periods after preactivation.

NK cells were initially thought to be endowed with a particular migratory pattern and to mainly circulate in the blood. The recent findings reviewed here highlight that NK cells can exhibit different predilictions for tissue compartments, i.e., lymph nodes, inflamed tissues, etc., where they can play an important role as active participants in ...

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Cancer progression is regulated by the dynamic matrix code of the tumor microenvironment, which influences cellular behavior and disease development. Importantly, matrix remodeling in three‐dimensional cancer models more accurately reflects in vivo conditions compared to conventional two‐dimensional systems.

Overview of Strategies to Improve Therapy against Tumors Using Natural Killer Cell
NK cells are lymphocytes with antitumor properties and can directly lyse tumor cells in a non-MHC-restricted manner. However, the tumor microenvironment affects the immune function of NK cells, which leads to immune evasion.

Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Stress-induced in vivo recruitment of human cytotoxic natural killer cells favors subsets with distinct receptor profiles and associates with increased epinephrine levels [PDF]
Acute stress drives a 'high-alert' response in the immune system. Psychoactive drugs induce distinct stress hormone profiles, offering a sought-after opportunity to dissect the in vivo immunological effects of acute stress in humans.
