Anti‐inflammatory effects of physical stimuli: The central role of networks in shaping the future of pharmacological research

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 10, Page 2177-2196, May 2026.
Addressing complexity in the study of life sciences through Systems Biology and Systems Medicine has been transformative, making Systems Pharmacology the next logical step. In this review, we focus on physical stimuli, whose potential in pharmacology has been neglected, despite demonstrated therapeutic properties.

Associations of obesity, systemic inflammation, and hyperinsulinemia with the incidence of non‐communicable chronic disease and mortality: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 5, Page 3883-3894, May 2026.
Abstract Aims Obesity, systemic inflammation, and hyperinsulinemia are all features of metabolic syndrome and frequently occur together. We aimed to evaluate the association of body mass index (BMI) with incident non‐communicable chronic disease (NCD) or all‐cause mortality, independent of C‐reactive protein (CRP) and fasting insulin.

The Role of NLRP1, AIM2 and MEFV Inflammasomes in the High‐Intensity Interval Training of Individuals With Obesity

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 178, Issue 1, Page 109-117, May 2026.
This study shows that 8 weeks of high‐intensity interval training (HIIT) modulate inflammasome‐related gene expression in individuals with obesity. HIIT increased AIM2, MEFV, CARD16 and CARD18 expression, with CARD16 upregulation supporting reduced inflammation through inhibition of caspase‐1 activation and lower IL‐1β levels.

Correlation between the neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio and enlarged perivascular spaces in type 2 diabetes mellitus

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 844-850, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims To determine the relationship between the neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio and enlarged perivascular spaces in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and Methods Cranial magnetic resonance imaging data from 200 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were analyzed to categorize enlarged perivascular spaces in the basal ganglia and

The Dual Role of Methyl Caffeate: Growth Inhibition of Pseudomonas syringae and Induction of Resistance to Bacterial Speck Disease in Tomato

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 27, Issue 5, May 2026.
Methyl caffeate exhibits dual functionality against Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato. It directly disrupts bacterial membrane integrity, induces reactive oxygen species accumulation, and inhibits flagellar motility and the type III secretion system. Concurrently, it primes plant defence by activating defence‐related gene expression and enzyme activities,
