Pretreatment of citrus by-products affects polyphenol recovery:a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A large amount of citrus waste is generated annually. This waste is of great economic worth, since it contains high levels of polyphenols, which have attracted scientific interest due to their potent antimicrobial and antiradical activities. Pretreatment

Synthetic flavonoids as novel modulators of platelet function and thrombosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Cardiovascular diseases represent a major cause of mortality and morbidity in the world and thrombotic conditions such as heart attacks and strokes are caused by unwarranted activation of platelets and subsequent formation of blood clots (thrombi) within

Screening the effect of four ultrasound-assisted extraction parameters on hesperidin and phenolic acid content of aqueous citrus pomace extracts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Polyphenols of citrus by-products, due to their antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, could be valorized by pharmaceutical and food industries, adding a value to the citrus processing companies.

Anti‐inflammatory Effects of 4′‐Hydroxy Nobiletin, the Major Metabolite of Nobiletin

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2012
Nobiletin, a citrus flavonoid has been associated with various biological activities including anti‐inflammation. We have found that 4′‐hydroxy nobiletin (4′HN) was a major colonic metabolite in mice fed with nobiletin, and the colonic levels of 4′HN were much higher than those of nobiletin.

Beyond antioxidants: the cellular and molecular interactions of flavonoids and how these underpin their actions on the brain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The consumption of flavonoid-rich foods and beverages has been suggested to limit the neurodegeneration associated with a variety of neurological disorders and to prevent or reverse normal or abnormal deteriorations in cognitive performance.

Sudachitin and Nobiletin Stimulate Lipolysis via Activation of the cAMP/PKA/HSL Pathway in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes

open access: yesFoods, 2023
Polymethoxyflavones are flavonoids that are abundant in citrus fruit peels and have beneficial effects on human health. Previous studies have demonstrated that the polymethoxyflavones, namely sudachitin and nobiletin, ameliorate obesity and diabetes in ...

Nobiletin Stimulates Chloride Secretion in Human Bronchial Epithelia via a cAMP/PKA-Dependent Pathway

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2015
Background/Aims: Nobiletin, a citrus flavonoid isolated from tangerines, alters ion transport functions in intestinal epithelia, and has antagonistic effects on eosinophilic airway inflammation of asthmatic rats. The present study examined the effects of

Deficit irrigation and maturation stage influence quality and flavonoid composition of ‘Valencia’ orange fruit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND:Effects of continuous deficit irrigation (DI) and partial rootzone drying (PRD) treatments (50%ETc) in comparison with full irrigation (CI, 100% ETc) were investigated during ‘Valencia’ orange fruit maturation.

Optimizing a sustainable ultrasound assisted extraction method for the recovery of polyphenols from lemon by-products:comparison with hot water and organic solvent extractions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Response surface methodology (RSM) based on a three-factor and three-level Box–Behnken design was employed for optimizing the aqueous ultrasound-assisted extraction (AUAE) conditions, including extraction time (35–45 min), extraction temperature (45–55 ...

Tissue distribution of nobiletin and its metabolites in mice after oral administration of nobiletin

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2013
Nobiletin (NBT), a major citrus polymethoxyflavone, has been shown to have various beneficial bioactivities such as anti‐inflammatory and anti‐carcinogenic effects. However, the in vivo absorption, metabolism, and tissue distribution of NBT is poorly understood.
