Novel therapeutic targets for chronic visceral pain in gastrointestinal disorders

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Chronic visceral pain imposes a major clinical challenge in gastroenterology and beyond, profoundly impacting patients' quality of life. However, limited understanding of its complex, multifaceted pathophysiology, encompassing both peripheral and central mechanisms, continues to impede the development of effective management strategies.

Dynamic processing of nociception in cortical network in conscious rats: A laser-evoked field potential study

open access: yes, 2008
(1) Field potential study in conscious rats provides a convenient and effective animal model for pain mechanism and pharmacological research. However, the spatial-temporal character of nociception processing in cortex revealed by field potential ...

The nociception coma scale: A new tool to assess nociception in disorders of consciousness.

open access: yes, 2010
peer reviewedAssessing behavioral responses to nociception is difficult in severely brain-injured patients recovering from coma. We here propose a new scale developed for assessing nociception in vegetative (VS) and minimally conscious (MCS) coma ...

Cancer pain: current practice and emerging targets

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Cancer pain (CP) arises from a complex interplay between the tumour and its microenvironment. Many patients experience a mixed pain phenotype that encompasses nociceptive, neuropathic and neuroinflammatory mechanisms, and vary across tumour type and disease stage. Despite decades of intensive research, the mainstay of cancer pain treatment is still non‐

Histone lactylation regulates DOCK4 to control heat nociception and supports Dynein-mediated Nav1.7 trafficking

open access: yesNature Communications
Heat nociception involves thermosensors like transient receptor potential channel V1 in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, but their loss only partially impairs heat sensing, suggesting other mechanisms.

Hypotonicity Induces TRPV4-Mediated Nociception in Rat

open access: yes, 2003
We hypothesized that TRPV4, a member of the transient receptor family of ion channels, functions as a sensory transducer for osmotic stimulus-induced nociception.

5‐HT2A receptor agonism by tert‐leucinamide and valinamide synthetic cannabinoids: In vitro and in vivo evidence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose New synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists (SCRAs) are associated with severe adverse effects, including unexpected psychiatric symptoms. These compounds are mainly active through their potent agonism on the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2.

Multivalent antibody‐based conjugates as new tools for tailored modulation of G protein–coupled receptors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
The G protein–coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily consists of the most common targets of approved drugs. Targeting GPCRs offers appealing avenues for therapeutic development. Antibodies and their fragments, such as single‐domain antibodies (VHHs or nanobodies), have emerged as useful alternatives to small molecule pharmacophores as building blocks in ...

Neuronal and ion channel mechanisms of noxious heat sensing in mammals: A puzzle of sensory physiology and pharmacology

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) was the first noxious heat‐sensitive channel discovered. In rodents, its role is robust in the heat response of the cell body of polymodal nociceptors, but surprisingly small in that of the peripheral terminals in the skin.
