Leptin Concentration, Obesity, and Plasma Non-esterified Fatty Acid Levels in Children [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2022
The association between obesity and higher non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) levels has been established in adults. In contrast, lower NEFA levels have been described in children with obesity although the reason behind this association remains unclear ...

Effect of supplementation with different doses of DHA on the levels of circulating DHA as non-esterified fatty acid in subjects of Asian Indian background

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1998
There is evidence to indicate that the high rates of coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction amongst Indians of Asian descent may be partly related to circulating non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA).

Esterified Oxylipins: Do They Matter?

open access: yesMetabolites, 2022
Oxylipins are oxygenated metabolites of fatty acids that share several similar biochemical characteristics and functions to fatty acids including transport and trafficking.

The determinants of fasting and post-load non-esterified fatty acids in older adults: The cardiovascular health study

open access: yesMetabolism Open, 2023
Aim: Non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) are potential targets for prevention of key cardiometabolic diseases of aging, but their population-level correlates remain uncertain.

The Bovine Hepatic Cell Line BFH12 as a Possible Model for Hepatosteatosis in Dairy Cows

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
Hepatosteatosis is a common metabolic disorder of dairy cows, especially during early lactation. Currently, there are a few models of bovine hepatic steatosis available, including primary hepatocytes, liver slices, and animal models.

Associations of Early Pregnancy Metabolite Profiles with Gestational Blood Pressure Development

open access: yesMetabolites, 2022
Blood pressure development plays a major role in both the etiology and prediction of gestational hypertensive disorders. Metabolomics might serve as a tool to identify underlying metabolic mechanisms in the etiology of hypertension in pregnancy and lead ...

Regulation of fibrinolysis by non-esterified fatty acids [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1994
The ability of oleic acid to modulate fibrinolysis was measured by following the urokinase-mediated and plasminogen-dependent cleavage of 125I-labelled fibrin clots. Oleic acid levels within the physiological range exerted a concentration-dependent inhibition of urokinase-mediated fibrinolytic activity.

Regulation of Insulin Clearance by Non-Esterified Fatty Acids

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Insulin stores lipid in adipocytes and prevents lipolysis and the release of non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA). Excessive release of NEFA during sustained energy supply and increase in abdominal adiposity trigger systemic insulin resistance, including in the liver, a major site of insulin clearance.

Release of individual fatty acids from human adipose tissue in vivo after an overnight fast

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1996
The objective of this study was to investigate the mobilization of individual fatty acids from human subcutaneous adipose tissue in vivo. Concentrations of individual non-esterified fatty acids were measured in arterialized plasma and in the venous ...

Comparisons of Fatty Acid Taste Detection Thresholds in People Who Are Lean vs. Overweight or Obese: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Given the increasing evidence that supports the ability of humans to taste non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), recent studies have sought to determine if relationships exist between oral sensitivity to NEFA (measured as thresholds), food intake and ...
