Non-HLA Transplantation Immunity Revealed by Lymphocytotoxic Antibodies

Lancet, The, 2005
The presence of panel-reactive antibodies (PRA) against HLA antigens before transplantation is associated with early rejection of kidney grafts from cadaver donors. Transplants from HLA-identical sibling donors do not provide a target for antibodies to HLA antigens and should therefore not be affected by PRA.Data from the Collaborative Transplant Study

Non-HLA Antibodies and Their Role in Highly Sensitized Patients

Transplantation Proceedings, 2022
The role of non-HLA antibody is gaining special attention in solid-organ transplantation and in highly sensitized (HS) patients because of its potential involvement in graft loss (GL) and/or antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR). The identification of non-HLA antibodies while listed may provide deeper information about the increased immunologic risk prior

Non-HLA antibodies in transplantation

Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, 2016
A growing interest in the contribution of non-human leukocyte antigens (non-HLA) antibodies to allograft rejection has led to the identification of multiple target antigens and investigation into the possible mechanisms of injury. Although several non-HLA antibody specificities have been identified, the largest cohorts studied are those detected using ...

Role of non-HLA antibodies in organ transplantation

Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, 2012
Purpose of review Humoral responses beyond major histocompatibility antigens receive an increased attention of the transplantation community. We aimed to summarize the data on discovery of new antigenic targets, novel experimental findings, recent diagnostic developments, and introduction of new technologies in the field of non-

Vimentin Antibodies: A Non-HLA Antibody as a Potential Risk Factor in Renal Transplantation

Transplantation Proceedings, 2005
Chronic allograft rejection is the major problem encountered in solid organ transplantation and is the end point of several complex processes. A number of recent studies show both alloimmune and autoimmune responses may have roles to play. The importance of HLA antibodies in transplantation is well documented, but despite the introduction of very ...

Non-HLA antibodies in solid organ transplantation

Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, 2013
Humoral responses beyond major histocompatibility antigens continue to receive the attention of the transplantation community. We report on clinical studies testing clinical relevance of non-human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antigens in solid organ transplantation and provide an update on novel experimental findings.

Clinical Relevance of Antibodies to Non-HLA Antigens in Organ Transplantation

Clinics in Laboratory Medicine, 1991
This article summarizes work that focuses on alloantibodies that bind to endothelial cells and attempts to provide an evaluation of the apparent role that antigens distinct from classic HLA alleles, and not expressed in lymphocytes, may play in kidney transplant rejection. The most recent experience with the donor-skin crossmatch in prediction of early

Non-HLA-antibodies targeting Angiotensin type 1 receptor and antibody mediated rejection

Human Immunology, 2012
Antibody-mediated mechanisms directed against non-HLA related targets may exert negative impact on allograft function and survival. Angiotensin type 1 receptor (AT(1)R) emerges as a functional target for non-HLA allo- and autoantibodies (AT(1)R-Abs) comprising of IgG1 and IgG3 subclasses. Proof of concept for pathophysiologic relevance of AT(1)R-Abs in

Non‐HLA Lymphocytotoxic Antibodies in HIV‐Seropositive and HIV‐Seronegative Hemophiliacs

Vox Sanguinis, 1988
Abstract. We tested serum samples from 11 HIV‐seropositive and 32 HIV‐seronegative Italian patients with hemophilia A or B for the presence of lymphocytotoxic antibodies (LCTAs). No patients had the acquired immune deficiency syndrome and all had received over many years heat‐untreated commercial clotting factors.

HLA Antibodies, Non-HLA Antibodies, and Crossmatch Methods

1993
In the mid-1960s a number of reports were published showing a strong association between reactivity of antibodies in the patient’s pregraft serum with the lymphocytes of the donor (positive crossmatch) and immediate rejection of the renal allograft (hyperacute rejection) (Kissmeyer-Nielsen et al. 1966; Terasaki et al. 1968).
