Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Motivating reductionism about sets

open access: yes, 2008
The paper raises some difficulties for the typical motivations behind set reductionism, the view that sets are reducible to entities identified independently of set ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Three concepts of power: Foucault, Bourdieu, and Habermas

open access: yesPower and Education
The article is a discussion of the concept of power in three different social theories that are often applied to educational research: the theories of Jürgen Habermas, Pierre Bourdieu, and Michel Foucault.

TRANSFORMATION OF THE PARADIGM OF WRITING BIOGRAPHIES: A META-CRITICAL SYNTHESIS OF CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE AND BIOGRAPHICAL STUDIES

open access: yesJurnal Ceteris Paribus
This article presents a meta-critical synthesis of the paradigm shifts in life writing—encompassing both biography and autobiography—as documented in thirteen (13) articles published in the journal Biography between 1972 and 1979.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

To defend mereological reductionism from 2 objections

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, I will deal with what mereological reductionism is, what problem occurs if we accept mereological reductionism and how we could avoid the objections against mereological reductionism.

Mind-Body Causal Relationship: Inquiry into Mental Health Disorders and the Limits of Neurobiological Reductionism

open access: yesIbom Medical Journal
This paper undertook a critical and exploratory inquiry into how causality in the mind-body relationship has been theorised and operationalised in contemporary mental health discourse. Unlike dominant approaches that prioritised brain-based explanations
