The Challenges and Opportunities in the Clinical Application of Noncoding RNAs: The Road Map for miRNAs and piRNAs in Cancer Diagnostics and Prognostics

open access: yesInternational Journal of Genomics, 2018
Discoveries on nonprotein-coding RNAs have induced a paradigm shift in our overall understanding of gene expression and regulation. We now understand that coding and noncoding RNA machinery work in concert to maintain overall homeostasis.

Noncoding RNAs and Cardiac Fibrosis

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
Myocardial fibrosis is a common pathological feature of various terminal cardiovascular diseases. Progressive fibrosis is the pathological basis for the development and progression of many cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure.

The Regulation of Ferroptosis by Noncoding RNAs

open access: yes, 2023
As a novel form of regulated cell death, ferroptosis is characterized by intracellular iron and lipid peroxide accumulation, which is different from other regulated cell death forms morphologically, biochemically, and immunologically.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Noncoding RNA as a crucial epigenetic modulator in the degeneration of the ligamentum flavum

open access: yesExperimental and Molecular Medicine
Ligamentum flavum degeneration, including hypertrophy and ossification of the ligamentum flavum, leads to degenerative spinal stenosis in older adults. However, the underlying mechanisms of ligamentum flavum degeneration remain unclear, and therapeutic ...

Focus on Noncoding RNA Regulation of Plant-Microbe Interactions

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2016
Investigations in recent years have uncovered important roles for RNA molecules that do not encode proteins (‘noncoding RNAs’) but which, nevertheless, exert powerful effects on gene expression at both transcriptional and posttranscriptional levels.

Long noncoding RNAs in viral infections

open access: yes, 2016
Viral infections induce strong modifications in the cell transcriptome. Among the RNAs whose expression is altered by infection are long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs). LncRNAs are transcripts with potential to function as RNA molecules.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

The Study of eIF4E Resin in Purifying Noncoding RNAs

open access: yes四川大学学报. 自然科学版, 2016
Recent large-scale studies of the human transcriptome suggest that there are much more abundant noncoding transcripts than previously excepted. Many noncoding RNAs in cells lack a canonical poly(A) tail, which suggests that Oligo(dT) resin is not ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.
