ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF A SECONDARY METABOLITE-PRODUCING CORAL BACTERIUM Pseudoalteromonas SPECIES [PDF]
A bacterium, collected at the surface of coral Acropora sp., TAB4.2 was successfully screened for secondary metabolites production based on PCR amplification of the non-ribosomal peptide synthetase gene.

Structure and Biosynthesis of Mangotoxin Produced by the Plant Pathogen Pseudomonas syringae
The structure of mangotoxin remained elusive for over two decades. Here, mangotoxin was isolated from the native producer, Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae, and was determined to be an alkyne‐containing dipeptide. Mangotoxin inhibited the growth of multidrug‐resistant human pathogen Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Genome mining of atypical condensation (C) domains leads to the discovery of myxoglucamides, glycolipopeptides featuring an unprecedented vinyl‐substituted, α‐oxidized γ‐amino acid. Biosynthetic studies reveal a discrete C‐domain‐like O‐acyltransferase, a β‐hydroxylation‐dependent chain‐extension checkpoint, and an unusual pathway for γ‐amino acid ...

The role of the phosphopantetheinyltransferase enzyme, PswP, in the biosynthesis of antimicrobial secondary metabolites by Serratia marcescens Db10 [PDF]
Phosphopantetheinyl transferase (PPTase) enzymes fulfil essential roles in primary and secondary metabolism in prokaryotes, archaea and eukaryotes. PPTase enzymes catalyse the essential modification of the carrier protein domain of fatty acid synthases ...

Adenylation Domain Engineering Enables Biosynthesis of an Improved Polymyxin Antibiotic
To enable incorporation of l‐2‐aminodecanoic acid into polymyxin by fermentation, a single Trp‐to‐Ala substitution is rationally introduced into the adenylation‐domain residue of its nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) and efficiently switches substrate selectivity. The engineered strain produces biologically active Ada‐polymyxin, demonstrating that

Rapid Peptide Cyclization Inspired by the Modular Logic of Nonribosomal Peptide Synthetases. [PDF]
Nonribosomal cyclic peptides (NRcPs) are structurally complex natural products and a vital pool of therapeutics, particularly antibiotics. Their structural diversity arises from the ability of the multidomain enzyme assembly lines, nonribosomal peptide ...
