Prooxidant activity of norbixin in model of acute gastric ulcer induced by ethanol in rats
Human & Experimental Toxicology, 2015Free radicals and oxidative stress play a central role in gastric injuries caused by ethanol (EtOH). Antioxidant strategies to counteract EtOH toxicity are highly desirable. Norbixin (NBIX) is a carotenoid with antioxidant potential largely used in the food industry.

Effect of bixin and norbixin on the expression of cytochrome P450 in Hep
AbstractBixin and norbixin are the main components of annatto, which is extracted from Bixa orellana and largely used as natural colorant in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Annatto can enhance CYP1A and CYP2B activity in rats; however, the inducer effect has not been investigated in human cell lines.

Stability of potassium norbixinate and curcumin by microencapsulation with maltodextrin DE20 and freeze-drying was evaluated as a function of exposition to light, air, different pH, water solubility, and in food applications. The best results were obtained with microencapsulated potassium norbixinate 1:20, which, when vacuum-packed and in the presence ...

Synthesis and determination of the Sun Protection Factor of a cosmetic gel-cream based on norbixin
2023This work aimed to determine the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of a cream-gel based on norbixin through spectrophotometry. Samples of gel-cream A and B were prepared at a concentration of 0.2 μL/mL and the absorbances were measured in the UVB region and the SPF was calculated using the equation used in the Mansur method.

Kinetics study of norbixin’s first stage thermal decomposition, using dynamic method
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2007Cis-norbixin isomer obtained by hydrolysis of cis-bixin and isolated by solvent extraction from annatto seeds. The thermal decomposition data of the cis-norbixin samples were analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis at different heating rates in the 25–900°C temperature range.

The increased prevalence of cardio-metabolic disorders worldwide prompted the exploration of new strategies for its treatment. Peroxisome Proliferator activated receptor (PPAR) play major role in regulation of lipid as well as glucose metabolism and thus, natural PPARγ activators seem to be drug of choice. In the present work, we studied norbixin which ...

Aims: Bixin and norbixin are natural antioxidants used as pigments in the food industry, but their chemical structure makes them susceptible to environmental factors (light, oxygen, and temperature). Background: Nanoencapsulation techniques can improve the stability and solubility of these compounds in addition to reducing particle size which can ...
