Safety and efficacy of cis‐norbixin di‐potassium salt (annatto F) for cats and dogs [PDF]
Following a request from the European Commission, the Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of annatto F (alkali‐processed norbixin, acid ...

Bromoacetate Olefination Protocol for Norbixin and Julia–Kocienski Olefination for Its Ester Syntheses [PDF]
A new olefination protocol utilizing ethyl bromoacetate was highlighted, in which magnesium enolate of the ester coupled with C20 dialdehyde 6, and double eliminations of the protected hydroxyl groups and bromine atoms of the coupling bromohydrin product, efficiently produced norbixin 1 after concomitant hydrolysis of the ester.

Third- and fifth-order optical nonlinearities of norbixin
In this work, we investigated the nonlinear response of norbixin (C24H28O4) in acetone. The third- and fifth-order optical nonlinearities were measured using the conventional Z-scan technique, with 357 fs laser pulses at 1040 nm and low-repetition rate ...

Norbixin Protects Retinal Pigmented Epithelium Cells and Photoreceptors against A2E-Mediated Phototoxicity In Vitro and In Vivo. [PDF]
The accumulation of N-retinylidene-N-retinylethanolamine (A2E, a toxic by-product of the visual pigment cycle) in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a major cause of visual impairment in the elderly.

Structural analysis of unstable norbixin isomers guided by pure shift nuclear magnetic resonance
We report the NMR analysis of complex samples obtained during the microwave irradiation/heating of norbixin, which is a potential therapeutic target for age‐related macular degeneration (AMD). We could successfully apply 1D pure shift experiments to record in a reduced amount of time ultrahigh resolution 1H NMR spectra of the norbixin isomer samples ...

Bixin, Norbixin and Quercetin and lipid metabolism effects in rabbits [PDF]
Flavonoids have been isolated with several biological activities and there are correlations among the consumption of rich foods in flavonoids and heart diseases. The 7-glucosyl-apigenin, 7- bisulfate-apigenin, 7-glucosyl-luteolin, 7-bisulfate-luteolin flavonoids and bixin and norbixin were isolated from urucu seeds.
