Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

A role for P selectin in complement-independent neutrophil-mediated glomerular injury

open access: yes, 1994
A role for P selectin in complement-independent neutrophil-mediated glomerular injury. Neutrophil recruitment and lung injury following complement activation have been demonstrated to be dependent on endothelial expression of P selectin.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

A Newly Described Control Mechanism of Complement Activation in Patients with Mixed Cryoglobulinemia (Cryoglobulins and Complement)

open access: yes, 1980
Levels in serum of components of complement were studied in a group of 10 patients with mixed cryoglobulinemia. The profiles found in most patients showed decreased levels of the early complement components C1, C4, and C2, with normal levels of C3 ...

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Immunohistochemical demonstration of membrane cofactor protein (MCP) of complement in normal and diseased kidney tissues

open access: yes, 1993
SUMMARY The immunohistochemically stained membrane cofactor protein of complement (MCP/CD46), one of the complement regulatory proteins, was up-regulated in some diseased kidney tissues.

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

MAC deposition of human complement-competent and -compromised sera in the three individual complement pathways.

open access: yes, 2013
Values are represented as means±SD of 3 independent experiments. Normal complement function is above 69, 10 and 30 units for the CP, LP and AP respectively, as indicated in the table.
