Complement Factor H: solution structures and interactions with ligands

open access: yes, 2009
Factor H (FH) is a plasma glycoprotein that plays a central role in regulating the alternative pathway of complement. It is composed of 20 short complement regulator (SCR) domains.

Reduced neuronal cell death after experimental brain injury in mice lacking a functional alternative pathway of complement activation

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience, 2006
Background Neuroprotective strategies for prevention of the neuropathological sequelae of traumatic brain injury (TBI) have largely failed in translation to clinical treatment.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

The role of the Streptococcus pneumoniae capsule in interactions with complement and phagocytes

open access: yes, 2010
The Streptococcus pneumoniae capsule is an essential virulence factor and it is ideally situated to modulate interactions between the bacteria and host immune cells.

Finite solvable groups with a nilpotent normal complement subgroup

open access: yes, 2023
Let $G$ be a finite solvable group and $H$ a non-normal core-free subgroup of $G$. We show that if the normalizer of any non-trivial normal subgroup of $Fit(H)$ is equal $H$, then $H$ has a nilpotent normal complement $K$ such that $G=KH$ and $KZ(Fit(H))$

Mesiodens Penyebab Malposisi Gigi Insisif Sentral pada Periode Geligi Bercampur (Laporan Kasus)

open access: yesJournal of Dentistry Indonesia, 2015
Supernumerary teeth are teeth added to normal complement of teeth. Mesiodens is a special and frequent type of supernumerary teeth, that usually conical, one or two teeth and located at or near the midline in the incisal region of the maxilla.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Genetic Epidemiology of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD): The Role of the Complement Component 2 (C2) and Complement Factor B (CFB) Genes in Determining AMD Subphenotypes

open access: yes, 2009
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of irreversible blindness in people over the age of 50 in the developed world. Inflammation has a central role in the pathobiology of AMD; complement pathway dysfunction is thought to induce

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Inhibition of monocyte complement receptor enhancement by low molecular weight material from human lung cancers

open access: yes, 1981
We have studied the effect of dialysates from lung cancer homogenates to alter both the expression of complement (C3b) receptors per se and also to inhibit leucoattractant-induced enhancement of complement rosettes on monocytes from healthy individuals ...
