Contemporary considerations in solid organ transplantation utilizing DCD donors
Introduction: Donation after cardiac death (DCD) has been leading the way to help bridge the growing gap between availability of donors and recipients on waitlist.

The use of pre-procurement normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) allowed us to implement controlled DCD liver transplantation with results comparable to brain death donors, but the use of uncontrolled DCD is declining due to logistic challenges and the ...

A novel quantitative method using Indocyanine Green (ICG) fluorescence image for assessing organ viability during hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HOPE), specifically focusing on homogeneous flow distribution analyzed with the gray‐scale level co‐occurrence matrix (GLCM) method, can predict portal vein resistance induced by ischemic ...

Strategies for Expanding Donors Pool in Heart Transplantation
Heart transplant remains the criterion standard treatment for patients in end-stage heart failure. Improvement in the post-heart transplant outcomes in the last decade has contributed to increased demand for organs.

Monitoring Mitochondrial Function With High‐Resolution Respirometry During Ex‐Situ Heart Perfusion
Normothermic ESHP preserves mitochondrial respiratory function over 6 h in a porcine model (n = 6): OXPHOS capacities across NADH‐, fatty‐acid‐, and succinate‐linked pathways remain stable, with reduced cytochrome‐c control efficiency indicating improved outer‐membrane integrity. HRR provides a rapid, actionable readout for organ assessment.

Sequential use of normothermic regional and ex-situ machine perfusion in DCD liver transplant [PDF]
In Italy, 20 minutes of continuous, flat-line electrocardiogram are required for declaration of death. In the setting of organ donation after cardiocirculatory death (DCD), prolonged warm ischemia time prompted introduction of abdominal normothermic ...

Successful heart transplantation from donation after euthanasia with distant procurement using normothermic regional perfusion and cold storage [PDF]
While euthanasia has been legalized in a growing number of countries, organ donation after euthanasia is only performed in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, and Canada.
