Notch Signalling: Receptor cis-Inhibition To Achieve Directionality [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2009
Lateral inhibition, by which single cells become distinct from their neighbours, can be mediated by Notch signalling during animal development. Signalling directionality is presumably achieved by downregulation of the Notch ligand in signal-receiving cells.

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

RETRACTED: Molecular structure and dimeric organization of the Notch extracellular domain as revealed by electron microscopy.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BackgroundThe Notch receptor links cell fate decisions of one cell to that of the immediate cellular neighbor. In humans, malfunction of Notch signaling results in diseases and congenital disorders. Structural information is essential for gaining insight

A Smart Magnetically Actuated Flip‐Disc Programmable Metasurface with Ultralow Power Consumption for Real‐Time Channel Control

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study proposes a 1‐bit programmable metasurface based on flip‐disc display, named flip‐disc metasurface (FD‐MTS). This new design enables ultralow energy consumption while maintaining coding patterns. It also exhibits high scalability and multifunctional flexibility.

Metabolic signaling directs the reciprocal lineage decisions of αβ and γδ T cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Wiring metabolic signaling circuits in thymocytes Cell differentiation is often accompanied by metabolic changes. Yang et al. report that generation of double-positive (DP) thymocytes from double-negative (DN) cells coincides with dynamic regulation of ...

Control of Notch-ligand endocytosis by ligand-receptor interaction [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopment, 2010
In Notch signaling, cell-bound ligands activate Notch receptors on juxtaposed cells, but the relationship between ligand endocytosis, ubiquitylation and ligand-receptor interaction remains poorly understood. To study the specific role of ligand-receptor interaction, we identified a missense mutant of the Notch ligand Jagged1 (Nodder, Ndr) that failed ...

Monoubiquitination and endocytosis direct γ-secretase cleavage of activated Notch receptor

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 2004
Activation of mammalian Notch receptor by its ligands induces TNFα-converting enzyme–dependent ectodomain shedding, followed by intramembrane proteolysis due to presenilin (PS)-dependent γ-secretase activity. Here, we demonstrate that a new modification,

MagPiezo: A Magnetogenetic Platform for Remote Activation of Endogenous Piezo1 Channels in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MagPiezo enables wireless activation of endogenous Piezo1 channels without genetic modification using 19 nm magnetic nanoparticles and low‐intensity magnetic fields. It generates torque forces at the piconewton scale to trigger mechanotransduction in endothelial cells, standing as a novel platform to interrogate and manipulate Piezo1 activity in vitro.

Geometrically Tunable Scaffold‐Free Muscle Bioconstructs for Treating Volumetric Muscle Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Volumetric muscle loss is associated with traumatic muscle resulting in permanent functional impairment. Mold‐based, scaffold‐free, high‐density muscle tissue bioconstructs are developed in customizable geometric shapes and sizes. The transplanted rectangular solid‐shaped muscle bioconstructs improved muscle force recovery and tissue regeneration in ...
