A Conserved Notochord Enhancer Controls Pancreas Development in Vertebrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
© 2020 The Authors. The notochord is an evolutionary novelty in vertebrates that functions as an important signaling center during development. Notochord ablation in chicken has demonstrated that it is crucial for pancreas development; however, the ...

The Ascidia Ciona robusta Provides Novel Insights on the Evolution of the AP-1 Transcriptional Complex

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
The Activator Protein-1 transcription factor family (AP-1) transcriptional complex is historically defined as an early response group of transcription factors formed by dimeric complexes of the Jun, Fos, Atf, and Maf bZIP proteins that control cell ...

Antimicrobial Residues in a Key Cerrado River: Distribution, Persistence, and Effects on Zebrafish Embryo‐Larval Development

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The current study aimed to quantify the antimicrobials amoxicillin (AMX), cefazolin (CFZ), chloramphenicol (CHL), metronidazole (MTZ), and sulfamethoxazole (SX) in effluents and surface water of an important Cerrado river, calculate their half‐lives, and analyze their ecotoxicity following single and combined exposures.

A Spotlight on Yolk‐sac Tumors: Molecular Pathology, Current Diagnostics, and Novel Therapeutics

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Yolk‐sac tumors are an aggressive subtype of testicular cancer that significantly contribute to disease progression and therapy resistance, especially in adults. While testicular cancer generally has high cure rates with cisplatin‐based treatment, adult yolk‐sac tumors often appear as components of mixed tumors with poor response to

An Essential Role for B1 Integrin Mediated Cell-Matrix Interactions in the Development and Maintenance of the Nucleus Pulposus

open access: yesGlobal Spine Journal, 2012
Introduction In humans, the almost total disappearance of notochordal cells in the nucleus pulposus (NP) correlates with early degenerative changes in the intervertebral disk which include changes in the extracellular matrix (ECM).

Itgb1‐Mediated Stabilization of Vimentin Alleviates Excessive Mechanical Stress‐Induced Nucleus Pulposus Cell Pyroptosis and Intervertebral Disc Degeneration via PINK1‐Parkin‐Dependent Mitophagy

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Excessive mechanical stress induces nucleus pulposus cell pyroptosis and intervertebral disc degeneration. Itgb1 inhibits MNAT1‐mediated ubiquitination and degradation of Vimentin. Vimentin alleviates excessive mechanical stress‐induced nucleus pulposus cell pyroptosis and intervertebral disc degeneration through PINK1‐Parkin‐dependent mitophagy ...

Chordoma Spontaneous Regression After COVID-19

open access: yesViruses
Chordomas are a low-to-intermediate-grade slow-growing subtype of sarcoma, but show propensity to grow and invade locally with recurrence and metastasis in 10–40% of cases.

Prenatal diagnosis of Fetal notochord syndrome: A case report and review of the literature

open access: yesCase Reports in Women's Health, 2020
Introduction: Split notochord syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by fistula formation between the gastrointestinal tract and skin on the dorsum. Prenatal diagnosis is difficult and most cases are diagnosed postnatally.

Embryonic and larval development of the endangered Chiapas killifish Tlaloc hildebrandi (Cyprinodontiformes: Profundulidae)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The early ontogeny of endemic freshwater fishes provides essential baseline biological information for conservation and management, particularly in species with restricted distributions and high vulnerability to habitat degradation, environmental change and population decline. This study presents the first detailed description of embryonic and

Axial muscle‐fibre orientations in larval zebrafish

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 4, Page 517-533, April 2025.
In 4 days post‐fertilization zebrafish larvae, the fast axial muscle fibres follow helical trajectories that taper towards the tail. Adjacent muscle fibres form substantial angles relative to each other to accommodate this pattern. Using a novel semi‐automatic method, we quantified 3D fibre angles over the whole muscle volume.
