The identification of FANCD2 DNA binding domains reveals nuclear localization sequences [PDF]
Fanconi anemia (FA) is a recessive genetic disorder characterized by congenital abnormalities, progressive bone-marrow failure, and cancer susceptibility. The FA pathway consists of at least 21 FANC genes (FANCA-FANCV), and the encoded protein products interact in a common cellular pathway to gain resistance against DNA interstrand crosslinks.

The sub-galactic and nuclear main sequences for local star-forming galaxies [PDF]
We describe a sub-galactic main sequence (SGMS) relating star formation rate surface density ($\Sigma_{\textrm{SFR}}$) and stellar mass density ($\Sigma_{\star}$) for distinct regions within star forming galaxies, including their nuclei. We use a sample of 246 nearby star-forming galaxies from the "Star Formation Reference Survey" and demonstrate that ...

Spot‐14 and Spot‐14R play distinct roles in regulating metabolism in brown and beige adipocytes. While both influence lipid and glucose pathways, Spot‐14 uniquely controls thermogenic gene expression. This dual regulation balances energy storage and heat production, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for obesity and metabolic disorders. Spot 14

Halpha3: an Halpha imaging survey of HI selected galaxies from ALFALFA. III. Nurture shapes up the Hubble sequence in the Great Wall [PDF]
We present the analysis of Halpha3, an Halpha imaging survey of galaxies selected from the HI ALFALFA Survey in the Coma Supercluster. By using the Halpha line as a tracer of the "instantaneous" star formation, complemented with optical colors from SDSS we explore the hypothesis that a morphological sequence of galaxies of progressively earlier type ...

Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

In normally growing Drosophila cultured cells the Drosophila heat shock transcription factor (dHSF) is localized in the cytosol and translocates into the nucleus after heat shock.

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

Nuclear–Cytoplasmic Shuttling of the Usher Syndrome 1G Protein SANS Differs from Its Paralog ANKS4B
The USH1G protein SANS is a small multifunctional scaffold protein. It is involved in several different cellular processes, such as intracellular transport, in the cytoplasm, or splicing of pre-mRNA, in the cell nucleus.

High‐throughput, microscope‐based sorting to dissect cellular heterogeneity
Microscopy is a powerful tool for characterizing complex cellular phenotypes, but linking these phenotypes to genotype or RNA expression at scale remains challenging.

The HIV-1 Tat Nuclear Localization Sequence Confers Novel Nuclear Import Properties [PDF]
The different classes of conventional nuclear localization sequences (NLSs) resemble one another in that NLS-dependent nuclear protein import is energy-dependent and mediated by the cytosolic NLS-binding importin/karyopherin subunits and monomeric GTP-binding protein Ran/TC4.
