SOLiD‐MaP: A Photoproximity Labeling Platform for Small Molecule Binding Site Mapping on RNA

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 43, 19 October 2026.
SOLiD‐MaP is a ligand‐directed photoproximity labeling strategy developed for RNA binding‐site analysis. Singlet oxygen‐mediated labeling creates a proximity‐dependent chemical footprint of bound small molecules on RNA. Coupling this chemistry with mutational profiling enables identification of the ligand‐binding region at nucleotide resolution ...

Design, Synthesis and Biophysical Characterisation of CPP‐PNA Conjugates for Targeting Oncogenic microRNA‐221

open access: yesJournal of Peptide Science, Volume 32, Issue 11, November 2026.
Cell‐penetrating peptide‐peptide nucleic acid (CPP‐PNA) conjugates that target the oncogenic microRNA‐221‐5p were synthesised using Cu(I)‐catalysed azide‐alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) and disulfide‐mediated conjugation strategies. These constructs form highly stable, sequence‐selective PNA/RNA heteroduplexes and demonstrate preliminary antiproliferative

Isothiazologuanosine (tzG) as Environmentally Sensitive Fluorescent Reporter in RNA

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 43, 19 October 2026.
The emissive isothiazologuanosine analog tzG is synthesized for the first time as RNA phosphoramidite building block for solid‐phase synthesis. Due to its isomorphic and isofunctional characteristics, tzG forms Watson–Crick base pairs and can be used as fluorescent probe to monitor (deoxy)ribozyme activity.

Laboratory Experiments Identify Meteoritic Organic Precursors for Chlorinated Compounds Detected by the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) Instrument at Gale Crater

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 11, November 2026.
Abstract The Viking missions landed two spacecraft on Mars each equipped with a pyrolysis‐gas chromatograph‐mass spectrometer system capable of detecting signs of life. Although working as intended, detections of chloromethane and dichloromethane were initially attributed to terrestrial contamination.

ROS Is Necessary for Dormancy Breaking in Fission Yeast Spores, While Its Downregulation by Sod1 Is Crucial for Later Events

open access: yesGenes to Cells, Volume 31, Issue 6, November 2026.
Dormant fission yeast spores germinate on exposure to nutrients. ROS promotes initiation of germination, whereas reduction of ROS is required in later stages of germination. Artificially lowering ROS at the initial stage inhibited germination, whereas elevating ROS later failed to promote it, indicating that optimal ROS levels are required for ...

Compound-specific carbon and nitrogen isotopic analyses of underivatized pyrimidine and purine nucleobases

open access: yes
We report on a newly developed method for compound-specific isotopic analysis (CSIA) of carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) in underivatized pyrimidine (cytosine, uracil, and thymine) and purine (adenine, guanine, hypoxanthine, and xanthine) nucleobases ...

Rapid Access to Photoswitchable RNA Binders: Fluorination Enhances Protein Rescue by Exon Inclusion

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 39, 22 October 2026.
An adaptable approach, many light‐switchable RNA binders. We report a versatile strategy for rapidly synthesizing photoswitchable RNA binders. The ligands can target SMN2 pre‐mRNA, restoring the levels of the corresponding protein by exon‐inclusion rescue.

Mechanical Caging of Nucleic Acids Enabled by Light‐Activated Synthetic Molecular Motors

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 42, 12 October 2026.
A synthetic light‐driven molecular motor imposes mechanical constraints on nucleic acids, enabling “mechanical caging” as a new mode to regulate DNA structure and function through mechanical input rather than chemical masking. ABSTRACT Control over nucleic acid activity is central to biotechnology and therapeutic development.
