Nucleolin is a multifunctional phosphoprotein ubiquitously distributed in the nucleolus, nucleus and cytoplasm of the cell. Nucleolin has a bipartite nuclear localization signal sequence and is conserved in animals, plants and yeast. Its levels are correlated with the rate of functional activity of the nucleolus in exponentially growing cells ...

Nucleolin is a calcium‐binding protein
AbstractWe have purified a prominent 110‐kDa protein (p110) from 1.6 M NaCl extracts of rat liver nuclei that appears to bind Ca2+. p110 was originally identified by prominent blue staining with ‘Stains‐All’ in sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gels and was observed to specifically bind ruthenium red and 45Ca2+ in nitrocellulose blot overlays.

Stat1 nuclear translocation by nucleolin upon monocyte differentiation. [PDF]
BackgroundMembers of the signal transducer and activator of transcription (Stat) family of transcription factors traverse the nuclear membrane through a specialized structure, called the nuclear pore complex (NPC), which represents a selective filter for

Outer Membrane Vesicles Mediate the Secretion and Nuclear Trafficking of a Bacterial Nucleomodulin. [PDF]
(A) We propose that Helicobacter pylori secretes a nucleomodulin, Tumour Necrosis Factor‐α‐inducing protein (Tipα), predominantly via extracellular vesicles (EVs), also known as outer membrane vesicles, rather than as free protein. (B) EVs carrying Tipα enter eukaryotic cells by endocytosis and independently of surface‐expressed nucleolin, then traffic

Nucleolin: a nuclear Akt substrate
Nucleolin is one of the most representative proteins in nucleoli of actively dividing cells, potentially involved in a large number of nuclear processes like transcription, chromatin organization, rRNA maturation and ribosome assembly (1-2). We observed the presence in nucleolin of the Akt phosphorylation motif, which is highly conserved in several ...

Nucleolin Interacts with Telomerase [PDF]
Telomerase is a specialized reverse transcriptase composed of core RNA and protein subunits which plays essential roles in maintaining telomeres in actively dividing cells. Recent work indicates that telomerase shuttles between subcellular compartments during assembly and in response to specific stimuli.

Stress-Dependent Nucleolin Mobilization Mediated by p53-Nucleolin Complex Formation [PDF]
We recently discovered that heat shock causes nucleolin to relocalize from the nucleolus to the nucleoplasm, whereupon it binds replication protein A and inhibits DNA replication initiation. We report that nucleolin mobilization also occurs following exposure to ionizing radiation (IR) and treatment with camptothecin. Mobilization was selective in that

AS1411 Nucleolin-Specific Binding Aptamers Reduce Pathological Angiogenesis through Inhibition of Nucleolin Phosphorylation [PDF]
Proliferative retinopathies produces an irreversible type of blindness affecting working age and pediatric population of industrialized countries. Despite the good results of anti-VEGF therapy, intraocular and systemic complications are often associated after its intravitreal use, hence novel therapeutic approaches are needed.

Recognition of G-quadruplexes in microRNA precursors by nucleolin and its implications in cancer [PDF]
Cancer is among the most frequent pathologies, and it is responsible for high mortality rates, which tend to increase year by year. In order to restore the well-being of citizens, numerous efforts have been performed to develop new diagnostic and ...

Cloning and sequencing of the human nucleolin cDNA [PDF]
A cDNA containing the entire coding region for human nucleolin has been isolated from a λ gt10 human retinal library using a bovine cDNA probe. The cDNA hybridized to a transcript of 3000 bases from fast‐dividing cells, as well as terminally differentiated tissues of several species.
