Nucleosides 8 [18]: Ribosylation of Fused Quinazolines—Synthesis of New [1,2,4]Triazolo[5,1-b]- and [1,2,4]Triazino[3,2-b]quinazoline Nucleosides of Fluorescence Interest

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2013
[1,2,4]Triazolo[5,1-b]- and [1,2,4]triazino[3,2-b] quinazolines have been ribosylated by coupling with 1-O-acetyl-2,3,5-tri-O-benzoyl-β-D-ribofuranose and by using the silylation method, followed by debenzoylation by methanolic sodium methoxide to afford

Nucleobases and corresponding nucleosides display potent antiviral activities against dengue virus possibly through viral lethal mutagenesis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2018
Dengue virus affects millions of people worldwide each year. To date, there is no drug for the treatment of dengue-associated disease. Nucleosides are effective antivirals and work by inhibiting the accurate replication of the viral genome.

Taurine Bromamine: Reactivity of an Endogenous and Exogenous Anti-Inflammatory and Antimicrobial Amino Acid Derivative

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2016
Taurine bromamine (Tau-NHBr) is produced by the reaction between hypobromous acid (HOBr) and the amino acid taurine. There are increasing number of applications of Tau-NHBr as an anti-inflammatory and microbicidal drug for topical usage.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

In Vitro and In Silico Studies of Human Tyrosyl-DNA Phosphodiesterase 1 (Tdp1) Inhibition by Stereoisomeric Forms of Lipophilic Nucleosides: The Role of Carbohydrate Stereochemistry in Ligand-Enzyme Interactions

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Inhibition of human DNA repair enzyme tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase 1 (Tdp1) by different chiral lipophilic nucleoside derivatives was studied. New Tdp1 inhibitors were found in the series of the studied compounds with IC50 = 2.7–6.7 μM.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

The Prevailing Catalytic Role of Meteorites in Formamide Prebiotic Processes

open access: yesLife, 2018
Meteorites are consensually considered to be involved in the origin of life on this Planet for several functions and at different levels: (i) as providers of impact energy during their passage through the atmosphere; (ii) as agents of geodynamics ...

Expanding Chemical Space of Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles for Tunable Antiviral‐Like Immunomodulatory Responses and Potent Adjuvant Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a nucleic acid nanoparticle (NANP) platform designed to be rrecognized by the human innate immune system in a regulated manner. By changing chemical composition while maintaining constant architectural parameters, we identify key determinants of immunorecognition enabling the rational design of NANPs with tunable immune activation profiles
