Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

Light is more important than nutrient ratios of fertilization for cymodocea nodosa seedling development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Restoration of seagrass beds through seedlings is an alternative to the transplantation of adult plants that reduces the impact over donor areas and increases the genetic variability of restored meadows.

The anticancer effect of the HDAC inhibitor belinostat is enhanced by inhibitors of Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The pan‐HDAC inhibitor belinostat increases the expression of the pro‐apoptotic proteins Bim, Puma, and Noxa and induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient‐derived tumor organoids when used at high concentrations. Moreover, inhibiting the anti‐apoptotic proteins Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 sensitizes these preclinical models to the cytotoxic effect

Dose‐dependent induction of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in 3D melanoma models by non‐thermal plasma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐thermal plasma treatment of melanoma cells induced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a dose‐dependent fashion. This report highlights the critical need to further investigate potential adverse effects of non‐thermal plasma for cancer therapy and to optimize treatment parameters for clinical translation. Despite the promising results of non‐

Do nutrient uptakes and grain yields differ between spring barley varieties grown for organic farming as mono-crop and in mixture: Characteristics of spring barley varieties for organic farming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Manure application increased yield. Hence the study was conducted under the conditions of moderate nutrient stress and in all probability nitrogen stress. Under this condition nutrient uptakes, biomass production and grain yields did vary between Otira,

Molecular imaging predicts trastuzumab‐deruxtecan (T‐DXd) response in head and neck cancer xenograft models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Trastuzumab‐deruxtecan, a HER2‐targeting antibody‐drug conjugate, shows promising antitumor activity in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with low HER2 expression. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated dose‐dependent cell death and tumor growth reduction in low HER2‐expressing cell lines, which correlated with drug accumulation measured using a

The Combined Application of Urea and Fulvic Acid Regulates Apple Tree Carbon and Nitrogen Metabolism and Improves Anthocyanin Biosynthesis

open access: yesAgronomy
Improving apple peel color has been an important objective in apple production. To better understand the effect and mechanism of the combined application of urea and FA (fulvic acid) regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis, a field experiment was ...

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Humic Acid Promotes the Growth of Switchgrass under Salt Stress by Improving Photosynthetic Function

open access: yesAgronomy
As a potential crop in saline-alkali land, the growth of switchgrass could also be threatened by salt stress. Promoting the growth of switchgrass under salt stress by humic acid has great significance in the utilization of saline-alkali land.
