Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
FEBS Letters, EarlyView.Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Blood-ocular barrier disruption in patients with acute stroke [PDF]
Neurology, 2018 Prompted by the unexpected finding of gadolinium leakage into ocular structures (GLOS) in acute stroke patients, we studied the frequency and nature of this finding in 167 patients.Patients were selected who had an MRI with gadolinium at baseline and another MRI with fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging at 2 and/or 24 hours later.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis
Molecular Oncology, EarlyView.RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.
