Promising therapeutic drug delivery systems for glaucoma: a comprehensive review

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Ophthalmology, 2020
The delivery of ophthalmic drugs is challenging despite easy accessibility via the ocular surface. Topical instillation of eye drops is a relatively easy and most commonly used as a conduit for drug delivery for treating a myriad of ocular morbidities ...

Peribulbar poloxamer for ocular drug delivery [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, 2008
Abstract.Purpose:  The use of biopolymers in peribulbar injection for controlled drug delivery provides alternative options to eyedrops and intravitreal or surgical methods. Polymerizable biopolymers are especially likely to have a role because of their particular properties.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Unraveling the Therapeutic Enigma of Liposomes in Ocular Drug Delivery

open access: yesJournal of Bio-X Research
The ocular delivery of drugs has always presented a pharmaceutical challenge. Various ocular barriers, such as reflex blinking, tear turnover, epithelial tight junctions, metabolism in ocular tissues, efflux pumps, nasolacrimal drainage, and other blood ...

Breakdown of the Blood-Ocular Barrier as a Strategy for the Systemic Use of Nanosystems

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2012
Several drug delivery systems have been proposed to overcome physiological barriers, improving ocular bioavailability. Systemic routes are seldom used due to the blood-ocular barrier.

Suprachoroidal and Subretinal Injections of AAV Using Transscleral Microneedles for Retinal Gene Delivery in Nonhuman Primates. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Retinal gene therapy using adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) is constrained by the mode of viral vector delivery. Intravitreal AAV injections are impeded by the internal limiting membrane barrier, while subretinal injections require invasive surgery and ...

Ocular Drug Delivery for Glaucoma Management [PDF]

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2012
Current glaucoma management modalities are hindered by low patient compliance and adherence. This can be due to highly complex treatment strategies or poor patient understanding. Treatments focus on the management or reduction of intraocular pressure. This is most commonly done through the use of daily topical eye drops.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for
