Female mosquitoes are vectors of diseases, affecting both livestock and humans. The host-seeking and identification behaviors of mosquitoes are mediated mainly by olfactory cues. The peripheral olfactory organs of mosquitoes which perceive olfactory cues

Nymphal development took longer at 25°C than 30°C, and the Greek N. tenuis population developed more slowly than the commercial population. Nymphs clearly preferred E. kuehniella eggs over Artemia sp. cysts when both were offered equally. Egg production increased at 30°C, while female longevity declined.

Short-term memory trace mediated by termination kinetics of olfactory receptor. [PDF]
Odorants activate receptors in the peripheral olfactory neurons, which sends information to higher brain centers where behavioral valence is determined.

Lungfish possess a lamellar OE and a primitive VNO called as a recess epithelium (RecE). Among the lungfish V2Rs expressed in both the lamellar OE and the RecE in small individuals, some became restricted to the RecE in large individuals. These results suggest functional separation between the lamellar OE and the RecE is still incomplete in juveniles ...

Chemosensory sensitivity reflects reproductive status in the ant Harpegnathos saltator. [PDF]
Insects communicate with pheromones using sensitive antennal sensilla. Although trace amounts of pheromones can be detected by many insects, context-dependent increased costs of high sensitivity might lead to plasticity in sensillum responsiveness.

GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists and Weight Loss: A Critical Review of Mechanisms
ABSTRACT GLP‐1 receptor agonist medications have the potential to promote marked weight loss, but maximal and sustained benefit may be compromised by poor compliance and cessation of use. Development of next‐generation medications that address current obstacles to effective use and development of effective adjunct treatments will benefit from better ...

Odorant Inhibition in Mosquito Olfaction. [PDF]
How chemical signals are integrated at the peripheral sensory system of insects is still an enigma. Here we show that when coexpressed with Orco in Xenopus oocytes, an odorant receptor from the southern house mosquito, CquiOR32, generated inward (regular)

Insertion of T4-lysozyme (T4L) can be a useful tool for studying olfactory-related GPCRs. [PDF]
The detergents used to solubilize GPCRs can make crystal growth the rate-limiting step in determining their structure. The Kobilka laboratory showed that insertion of T4-lysozyme (T4L) in the 3rd intracellular loop is a promising strategy towards ...

Gain control network conditions in early sensory coding [PDF]
Gain control is essential for the proper function of any sensory system. However, the precise mechanisms for achieving effective gain control in the brain are unknown.
