Effect of single mutations in the OGG1 gene found in human tumors on the substrate specificity of the Ogg1 protein [PDF]
We have investigated the effect of single amino acid substitutions of conserved arginines on the catalytic activities of the human Ogg1 protein (alpha-hOgg1-Ser(326)) (wild-type alpha-hOgg1). Mutant forms of hOgg1 with mutations Arg(46)-->Gln (alpha-hOgg1-Gln(46)) and Arg(154)-->His (alpha-hOgg1-His(154)) have previously been identified in human tumors.

Impact of polymorphisms in base excision repair genes on seminal fluid parameters [PDF]
Aim: Abnormalities in sperm parameters can result from genetic variations in DNA repair genes. The base excision repair (BER) pathway is responsible for maintaining DNA integrity.

Characterization of oxidative guanine damage and repair in mammalian telomeres. [PDF]
8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine (8-oxoG) and 2,6-diamino-4-hydroxy-5-formamidopyrimidine (FapyG) are among the most common oxidative DNA lesions and are substrates for 8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase (OGG1)-initiated DNA base excision repair (BER).

MutY-Homolog (MYH) inhibition reduces pancreatic cancer cell growth and increases chemosensitivity [PDF]
Patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PC) have a poor prognosis due to metastases and chemoresistance. PC is characterized by extensive fibrosis, which creates a hypoxic microenvironment, and leads to increased chemoresistance and intracellular

Investigation of APE1 and OGG1 expression in chronic hemodialysis patients
Abstract Background: The role of DNA repair mechanisms is of significant importance in diseases characterized by elevated oxidative DNA damage, such as chronic kidney disease. It is imperative to thoroughly understand the functions of molecules associated with DNA repair mechanisms, not only for assessing susceptibility to diseases but also for

OGG1 Inhibition Reduces Acinar Cell Injury in a Mouse Model of Acute Pancreatitis
Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a potentially life-threatening gastrointestinal disease with a complex pathology including oxidative stress. Oxidative stress triggers oxidative DNA lesions such as formation of 7,8-dihydro-8-oxo-2′-oxoguanine (8-oxoG) and also

Grandmother Age Effects via Sperm Telomere Length and Egg Telomerase Transcripts. [PDF]
ABSTRACT The Lansing effect is a transgenerational age effect by which old parents tend to produce less viable descendants. Despite its importance for the evolution of lifespan and parental effects, the transgenerational nature of age effects and the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood.

G-quadruplex–forming promoter sequences enable transcriptional activation in response to oxidative stress [PDF]
Oxidative DNA damage is an implacable consequence of aerobic metabolism and often exacerbated in inflammatory processes that use reactive oxygen species (ROS) both as signaling molecules and as chemical warfare against pathogens.

Comparison of OGG1 gene expression level in gastric adenocarcinoma and adjacent normal tissue [PDF]
Background and aims: Gastric cancer is a major public health issue as the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in the world. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) induce DNA damage and this process plays an important role in gastric cancer development ...
