Studies on the extraction of wheat germ oil by commercial hexane

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2002
Extraction of an edible oil from wheat germ, an important byproduct of wheat milling industry in Egypt, using commercial hexane was studied. The extraction was carried out in a single and in two successive stages using different solvent-to-solid ratios ...

Treatments of free fatty acids to prevent or decrease colour fixation in cottonseed oil

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 1994
Some treatments have been investigated to prevent or remove colour fixation of cottonseed oil containing high level of free fatty acids without using excess of sodium hydroxide in the refining step.

Pattern recognition based on machine learning identifies oil adulteration and edible oil mixtures

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Fraudulent adulteration of edible oils is based on the fact that their characteristic fatty acid profile can be mimicked with mixtures of other oil types.

Changes occurring in vegetable oils composition due to microwave heating

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2003
The effect of microwave heating on three vegetable oils having different lipid compositions was studied. Sunflower, soybean and peanut oils in comparison with oil admixture of soybean and peanut oil (1:1, w/w), were selected for this study.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effect of different reversed micelles on autooxidation and photooxidation of stripped corn oil

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2003
The effect of reversed micelles (RMs) in combination with α -tocopherol and Trolox was evaluated on the autooxidation and photooxidation of stripped corn oil. Oxidation was followed by measuring hydroperoxide and hexanal formation.
