A brief history of olfaction and olfactometry
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 2008AbstractThe sense of smell has been a cause for speculation and fascination over the centuries. An appreciation of odours has been deeply rooted in many cultures, including ancient civilisations such as the Egyptians. The level of understanding of the anatomy and physiology of olfaction which our ancestors had was slight, and much remains to be ...

Gas Chromatography/Olfactometry
Current Protocols in Food Analytical Chemistry, 2003AbstractVolatile odorants can be analyzed by gas chromatography/olfactometry (GC/O), a collection of techniques that range from simple modifications of GC equipment to elaborate commercial GC‐olfactometers and protocols. This unit describes the direct column sniffing, dilution analysis, and time intensity protocols most commonly used in the food ...

Basics, Methods and Indications for Objective Olfactometry
Laryngo-Rhino-Otologie, 2002Basics, Methods and Indications for Objective Olfactometry. Olfactory disorders are receiving more widespread attention due to their large impact on quality of life. Olfaction may be evaluated with psychophysical methods that use such tools as Sniffn' Sticks® or the UPSIT® and with objective olfactometry.

Odours metrology and industrial olfactometry
1994Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on odors metrology and industrial olfactometry. Olfactometry is a method proposed to the industry to solve its odors and air pollution problems. The determination of the dilution flow at the perception threshold of a gaseous sample allows establishing odor concentrations free from any subjective limitation. This

TNO Experience with Olfactometry
1994Publisher Summary This chapter discusses several aspects of the TNO experience with respect to olfactometry. Odor concentration measurements are taken by diluting an odorous air sample with odor-free air and offering the dilutions to a panel of test subjects. The number of dilutions is expressed as a dilution number, being the quotient of the diluted

[Play olfactometry for children].
Vestnik otorinolaringologii, 1989The method presented includes recording of motor responses to odor stimulation reinforced by electric games. Game olfactometry was performed in 34 young children before and after adenotomy using a specially designed olfactometer which measured an increase in the threshold concentration of odor stimulation.
