ABSTRACT Olfaction, often regarded as a unique chemical sensation, plays a pivotal role in shaping our quality of life and mental well‐being. Numerous studies have highlighted the significant relationship between olfactory function and depressive symptoms.

The Olfactory Nervous System Of Terrestrial And Aquatic Vertebrates [PDF]
Animals in their natural milieu are surrounded by odors. These odors are rich source of information, and are perceived by sophisticated olfactory systems, that have evolved over time.

ABSTRACT Isolated complex I deficiency (ICD) is commonly associated with mitochondrial diseases and closely mimics subacute necrotising encephalomyelopathy. This disorder is characterised by metabolic perturbations that affect energy metabolism pathways, including fatty acid metabolism.

Relating Neural Dynamics to Neural Coding [PDF]
We demonstrate that two key theoretical objects used widely in Computational Neuroscience, the phase-resetting curve (PRC) from dynamics and the spike triggered average (STA) from statistical analysis, are closely related under a wide range of stimulus conditions. We prove that the STA is proportional to the derivative of the PRC.

Antbears and underground melons: A highly specialized seed dispersal mutualism mediated by scent
Seed dispersal is critical for the establishment and persistence of populations of most plant species. We investigated the seed dispersal biology of an African melon, Cucumis humifructus, which is closely related to cultivated cucumbers and watermelons but differs in that it buries its fruits deep underground.

Sparse connectivity for MAP inference in linear models using sister mitral cells [PDF]
Sensory processing is hard because the variables of interest are encoded in spike trains in a relatively complex way. A major goal in sensory processing is to understand how the brain extracts those variables. Here we revisit a common encoding model in which variables are encoded linearly.

Interdisciplinary approaches to enhance sensory properties and consumer acceptance in pulse crops
Enhancing the flavor profile of pulse crops such as chickpea, dry pea, and lentil is essential for increasing human acceptance of plant‐based diets. Despite their nutritional value, undesirable sensory attributes of pulses, including off‐flavors and bitterness, reduce consumer acceptance.

The forest pest Ips typographus was found to demonstrate attraction to Sitka spruce, and to colonize and breed upon cut logs as successfully as its primary host Norway spruce. This has implications for the beetle's establishment and impact in Sitka‐growing regions, including Britain where I.

Influence of bait and habitat on site visitation by wild pigs (Sus scrofa)
Bait, a food item, is important for attracting wild pigs to a site for management and considering habitat, including distance to water and understory, increases likelihood of wild pig visitation. Abstract BACKGROUND Wild pigs (Sus scrofa), known for their impacts on ecosystems in both their native and invasive ranges, are commonly managed using lethal ...
