Modulation of Olfactory Perception by Visual Cortex Stimulation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Neuroscience, 2012
When attempting to identify an object based on smell alone, people often visualize the perceived source of the odorant. This close association between olfactory and visual functions is supported by neuroimaging studies demonstrating activation of visual cortex during performance of purely olfactory tasks.

Reconstructing Coherent Functional Landscape From Multi‐Modal Multi‐Slice Spatial Transcriptomics by a Variational Spatial Gaussian Process

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces stVGP, a variational spatial Gaussian process framework for multi‐modal, multi‐slice spatial transcriptomics. By integrating histological and genomic data through hybrid alignment and attention‐based fusion, stVGP reconstructs coherent 3D functional landscapes.

Disease-specific, neurosphere-derived cells as models for brain disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
There is a pressing need for patient-derived cell models of brain diseases that are relevant and robust enough to produce the large quantities of cells required for molecular and functional analyses.

Monoaminylation in Human Health and Disease: State of the Field, Challenges, and Emerging Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review delineates monoaminylation—serotonylation, dopaminylation, and histaminylation—as key post‐translational modifications beyond receptor signaling. It details their catalytic mechanisms, roles in gene expression and protein function, and implications in health and disease, aiming to bridge mechanistic insights with therapeutic potential ...

Diesel Exhaust Activates & Primes Microglia: Air Pollution, Neuroinflammation, & Regulation of Dopaminergic Neurotoxicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: Air pollution is linked to central nervous system disease, but the mechanisms responsible are poorly understood. OBJECTIVES: Here, we sought to address the brain-region-specific effects of diesel exhaust (DE) and key cellular mechanisms ...

Olfactory cortical neurons read out a relative time code in the olfactory bulb [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Odor stimulation evokes complex spatiotemporal activity in the olfactory bulb, suggesting that the identity of activated neurons as well as the timing of their activity convey information about odors.

18β‐Glycyrrhetinic Acid and a Nano‐Liposomal Formulation Alleviate Depression‐Like Behaviors via the Microglial mTOR‐Autophagy‐NLRP3 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using a novel zebrafish‐based inflammatory screening strategy, we screened and identified 18β‐glycyrrhetinic acid (18β‐GA) as a promising anti‐inflammatory candidate. We uncover a microglial mTOR–autophagy–NLRP3 axis that constitutes the mechanistic core of 18β‐GA–mediated neuroprotection.

Sensory memory for odors is encoded in spontaneous correlated activity between olfactory glomeruli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Sensory memory is a short-lived persistence of a sensory stimulus in the nervous system, such as iconic memory in the visual system. However, little is known about the mechanisms underlying olfactory sensory memory.

Wiring olfaction: the cellular and molecular mechanisms that guide the development of synaptic connections from the nose to the cortex

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2009
Within the central nervous system, the olfactory system fascinates by its developmental and physiological particularities, and is one of the most studied models to understand the mechanisms underlying the guidance of growing axons to their appropriate ...
