Role of SoxE transcription factors in development and disease

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Sox8, Sox9, and Sox10 arose by multiple rounds of genome duplications from a single SoxE gene in ancestral vertebrates. In this review, we will briefly discuss the molecular structure and function of SoxE transcription factors and their evolutionary origin. We will then discuss their expression, function, and developmental disorders.

Identification of oligodendrocytes.

open access: yes, 2013
(A-F) Low (A-C) and high (D-F) magnification images showing cells from P15 CD-1 mice expressing Olig2 and CNPase, identified as oligodendrocytes after 7 days in culture.

Decoding epilepsy's molecular blueprint: Machine learning unravels transcriptomic subtypes and regulatory networks

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) affects approximately one‐third of patients with epilepsy. The molecular heterogeneity underlying DRE remains poorly defined, largely due to limited access to resected brain tissue and substantial genetic diversity.

WONOEP XVII appraisal: The role of the extracellular matrix in epilepsy

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract The extracellular matrix (ECM) is composed of proteoglycans and glycoproteins that regulate the external environment surrounding neurons, glia, and the vascular system. The ECM is vital for maintaining the structure and function of the brain and also acts as a reservoir for various signaling molecules and neurotransmitters, modulating synaptic

NADPH-diaphorase histochemistry reveals oligodendrocytes in the rainbow trout (teleosts).

open access: yes, 1996
We studied the distribution of NADPH-diaphorase (NADPHd) in the brain of the rainbow trout. Not only neurons but also tanycytes and oligodendrocytes showed NADPHd positivity.

A case report: Diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic hypertrophic pachymeningitis

open access: yesIbrain, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 112-116, Spring 2025.
We reported a case of idiopathic hypertrophic dura meningitis diagnosed in our hospital. The patient repeatedly suffered from headaches, followed by blurred vision in the right eye. During this period, multiple sclerosis was considered for diagnosis, and it improved after hormone treatment.

Oligodendrocytes damage in Alzheimer's disease: Beta amyloid toxicity and inflammation

open access: yesBiological Research, 2005
Research on Alzheimer's disease (AD) focuses mainly on neuronal death and synaptic impairment induced by β-Amyloid peptide (Aβ), events at least partially mediated by astrocyte and microglia activation.

HIV-1 Infection of Cultured Human Adult Oligodendrocytes

open access: yes, 1996
The mechanism through which HIV-1 causes HIV dementia (HIVD) is not well understood. Myelin pallor is a common pathological finding in HIVD and could be explained by a direct infection of oligodendrocytes or interaction with HIV-1 gp 120. To determine if

A Tripartite Model for EBV‐Driven Multiple Sclerosis: B Cell Survival, Altered Self‐Presentation, and HLA‐DR15‐Restricted T Cell Cross‐Reactivity

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This commentary integrates findings from three recent Cell reports to establish a unified mechanistic model of multiple sclerosis (MS) driven by the interplay between Epstein‐Barr virus (EBV) and the HLA‐DR15 genotype. EBV promotes CNS autoimmunity through three distinct but intersecting mechanisms.
