FSHR Trans-Activation and Oligomerization [PDF]
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) plays a key role in human reproduction through, among others, induction of spermatogenesis in men and production of estrogen in women. The function FSH is performed upon binding to its cognate receptor-follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) expressed on the surface of target cells (granulosa and Sertoli cells ...

The majority of lysosomal cysteine cathepsins are ubiquitously expressed enzymes. However, some of them differ in their specific cell or tissue distribution and substrate specificity, suggesting their involvement in determining normal cellular processes,

Role of leucine zipper-like motifs in the oligomerization of Pseudomonas putida phasins
Background Phasins are low molecular mass proteins that accumulate strongly in bacterial cells in response to the intracellular storage of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA).

Control of Protein Oligomerization and De-oligomerization on Lipid Membranes [PDF]
Oligomerization of protein into amyloid fibrils is central to the pathogenesis of several neurodegenerative disorders. Amyloid fibrillation and the cytotoxic actions of amyloids are membrane-associated processes.

Determinants of dengue virus NS4A protein oligomerization
We report that dengue virus NS4A protein forms oligomers in infected cells or when expressed alone. Amino acids 50-76, representing the first transmembrane domain (TMD1) of NS4A, constitute the major determinant for oligomerization.

For highly pathogenic viruses, reporter assays that can be rapidly performed are critically needed to identify potentially functional mutations for further study under maximal containment (e.g., biosafety level 4 [BSL-4]).

Extracellular conversion of adiponectin hexamers into trimers
Adiponectin is an adipocyte-secreted hormone that exists as trimers, hexamers and larger species collectively referred to as HMW (high-molecular-weight) adiponectin.

The dependence of chemokine–glycosaminoglycan interactions on chemokine oligomerization [PDF]
Both chemokine oligomerization and binding to glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are required for their function in cell recruitment. Interactions with GAGs facilitate the formation of chemokine gradients, which provide directional cues for migrating cells.
