High‐Specificity Spatiotemporal Cholesterol Detection by Quadrature Phase‐Shifted Polarization Stimulated Raman Imaging

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Utilizing quadrature phase modulation, the phase‐shifted polarization SRS (QP2‐SRS) microscope enables simultaneous measurement of the ρ‐related χ1111(3)$\chi _{1111}^{( 3 )}$ and χ1221(3)$\chi _{1221}^{( 3 )}$ components. In cholesterol molecular measurements, QP2‐SRS leverages the structural differences between cholesterol and other biomolecules to ...

Shedding Light on the Ageing of Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Probing the Impact of Temperature with Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Machine Learning Techniques [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This work systematically investigates the oxidation of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) under accelerated storage conditions with UV absorption and total fluorescence spectroscopy. With the large amount of data collected, it proposes a method to monitor the oil's quality based on machine learning applied to highly-aggregated data.

Intraoral Drug Delivery: Bridging the Gap Between Academic Research and Industrial Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intraoral drug delivery offers a promising route for systemic and localized therapies, yet challenges such as enzymatic degradation, limited permeability, and microbial interactions hinder efficacy. This figure highlights innovative strategies—mucoadhesive materials, enzyme inhibitors, and permeation enhancers—to overcome these barriers.

Pickering emulsions with alpha-cyclodextrin inclusions: Structure and thermal stability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper explores structural, interfacial and thermal properties of two types of Pickering emulsions containing alpha-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes: on one hand, emulsions were obtained between aqueous solutions of alpha-cyclodextrin and different oils (fatty acids, olive oil, silicone oil) and on the other hand, emulsions were obtained between ...

Olive oil and pomace olive oil processing

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2006
Olive oil processing is introduced in food industry at the end of the nineteenth century and a lot of improvements have been initialized since. The steps for refining are, settling, neutralizing, bleaching and deodorizing. Monitoring of effective refining and the use of processes that remove less minor components of olive oil, like polyphenols and ...

Advanced Oral Delivery Systems for Nutraceuticals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Emerging delivery technologies are explored to overcome barriers to oral nutraceutical absorption. Traditional carriers are compared with novel platforms including biodegradable polymers, MOFs, MPNs, and 3D printing. These systems enhance bioavailability, control release, and enable personalized nutrition.

Measuring the Faraday effect in olive oil using permanent magnets and Malus' law [PDF]

open access: yesEur. J. of Phys. 41 025301 (2020), 2019
We present a simple permanent magnet set-up that can be used to measure the Faraday effect in gases, liquids and solids. By fitting the transmission curve as a function of polarizer angle (Malus' law) we average over fluctuations in the laser intensity and can extract phase shifts as small as $\pm$ 50 $\mu$rads. We have focused on measuring the Faraday
