Discontinuation of SGLT2i After a Urogenital Infection: A Population‐Based Matched Cohort Study of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) improve glycaemic control and cardiorenal outcomes in Type 2 diabetes, particularly in patients at elevated cardiovascular and kidney risk, yet discontinuation following infections appears common.

Analgesic effects of alpha‐2‐adrenoreceptor agonists in equine medicine: systemic, spinal, and local applications

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Alpha‐2‐adrenoreceptor agonists provide analgesia when used as sole agents but can also be used in combination with other drugs for their additive and potentially synergistic effects. Further, because of their effects on blood flow, alpha‐2‐adrenoreceptor agonists act to extend and perhaps intensify the effects of drugs, such as local ...

Spatiotemporal dynamics of β‐arrestin‐mediated Src activation in 5‐HT7 receptor signaling pathway

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
GPCRs induce distinct cellular responses via G protein‐ or β‐arrestin‐mediated signaling pathways. This study revealed that β‐arrestin‐biased 5‐HT7R ligand induces slow, sustained Src activation, contrasting with transient G protein‐mediated activation.

Association Between Cholinesterase Inhibitor‐Overactive Bladder Antimuscarinic Prescribing Cascade and Risk of Delirium and Falls Among Individuals Living With Dementia

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Prescribing cascades occur when cholinesterase inhibitor (ChEI)‐induced urinary incontinence is misinterpreted as a new condition, leading to overactive bladder (OAB) antimuscarinic initiation. We evaluated whether the ChEI‐OAB antimuscarinic prescribing cascade was associated with delirium or falls compared with mirabegron in older

Conducting Medication Reviews: A Comparative Study Between ChatGPT‐4 and Healthcare Professionals

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The increasing prevalence of patients with hyperpolypharmacy (> 10 medications) has made medication reviews increasingly complex. ChatGPT‐4‐Turbo (ChatGPT), a large language model, has demonstrated potential in healthcare applications and could potentially support medication reviews.

Primary Care Practitioners' Approaches to Deprescribing Opioids for Older Adults With Chronic Pain: A Qualitative Analysis

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Risks related to long‐term opioid therapy for chronic pain are high and may increase over time with aging. Deprescribing may be a beneficial intervention for older adults prescribed chronic opioids. Methods Semi‐structured interviews with hypothetical clinical cases of older adults prescribed opioids for chronic pain: (1) low‐risk ...
