Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Identifying a Csmd3+ Microglial Subpopulation that Drives Cold‐to‐Hot Transition and Immune‐Cure in Glioblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study establishes an immune‐cure (ICu) mouse model based on a TMEMed G422TN‐GBM system that faithfully recapitulates human TMEMed GBM. scRNA‐seq analysis reveals a Csmd3+ microglial subset with innate immune memory (IIM) potential that potently suppresses GBM growth, drives a TME cold‐to‐hot transition, and induces 100% ICu in long‐term survival ...

Morphometric analysis of myelinated fibre composition in the optic nerve of adult C57BL and CBA strain mice and (C57BL x CBA) F1 hybrid:a comparison of interstrain variation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
In a study involving 50 optic nerves isolated from 3 different strains of adult male mice, C57BL, CBA and (C57BL x CBA) F1 hybrids, and from adult female CBA strain mice, we observed that the mouse had a lower mean total myelinated nerve fibre count than

RNA Sequencing of Tumor-Associated Microglia Reveals Ccl5 as a Stromal Chemokine Critical for Neurofibromatosis-1 Glioma Growth

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2015
Solid cancers develop within a supportive microenvironment that promotes tumor formation and growth through the elaboration of mitogens and chemokines.

Homonymous Retinal Ganglion Cell Layer Atrophy With Asymptomatic Optic Tract Glioma in Neurofibromatosis Type I

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2020
Approximately 20% of patients with Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) develop optic pathway gliomas (OPGs). Not all OPGs in NF1 necessarily become vision compromising and predicting which patients might develop visual decline is difficult at present time ...

Loss of SHP1 in Spinal Astrocytes Triggers T‐Lymphocyte Infiltration and Nociceptive Hypersensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Astrocyte‐specific SHP1 deletion disrupts astrocyte–vascular interactions and compromises BBB integrity while enhancing STAT1‐dependent CXCL10 expression. These changes synergistically promote peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration into the SDH. The infiltrating T cells secrete IFN‐γ, which in turn activates microglia.

Transplanted olfactory ensheathing cells promote regeneration of cut adult rat optic nerve axons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells into spinal cord lesions promotes regeneration of cut axons into terminal fields and functional recovery.

Sonoselective Transfection of Glioma Endothelium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Delivering non‐viral, gene‐bearing nanoparticles with thiol‐decorated surfaces to gliomas with focused ultrasound yields transfection tropism for endothelial cells. From this platform, “sonoselective” transfection of glioma endothelium is achieved via incorporation of an endothelial cell‐specific promoter.

Glioblastoma in the optic chiasm: A case report

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2022
Malignant optic gliomas are an uncommon pathology, with around 67 cases reported worldwide in the literature. We present the case of a 77-year-old-male with a two-month history of progressive vision loss, ultimately leading to bilateral blindness.

Effects of glutamate receptor activation on NG2-glia in the rat optic nerve [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
NG2-glia are a substantial population of cells in the central nervous system (CNS) that can be identified by their specific expression of the NG2 chondroitin sulphate (CSPG).
