Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The two reflector design problem for forming a flat wavefront from a point source as an optimal mass transfer problem [PDF]

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика, 2019
The article deals with a problem of calculating two reflecting surfaces that form a given irradiance distribution with a flat wavefront, provided that a point source of light is used. A notion of a weak solution for the said problem is formulated and the

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Monocular 3D Micro-PIV System Using Computational Imaging

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal
A three-dimensional (3D) particle image velocimetry (PIV) system typically consists of multiple cameras. However, micro-PIV systems for measuring microscale velocity fields lack sufficient space to accommodate them. In this work we propose an alternative

Conceptual Design of an On-Axis 6 m Space Telescope at the Diffraction Limit: Characteristics, Performance and Advantages

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
This paper presents the conceptual design of an on-axis 6 metre aperture space telescope designed to cover a field of view of ±0.2 degrees with an optical quality at the diffraction limit within a spectral range between 0.5 μm and 2.5 μm. The plate scale

Sonet Network Design Problems

open access: yes, 2009
This paper presents a new method and a constraint-based objective function to solve two problems related to the design of optical telecommunication networks, namely the Synchronous Optical Network Ring Assignment Problem (SRAP) and the Intra-ring ...

Self-Configuring Universal Linear Optical Component [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We show how to design an optical device that can perform any linear function or coupling between inputs and outputs. This design method is progressive, requiring no global optimization.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
