Dietary shochu kasu alleviates fatty liver induced by orotic acid
The effects of dietary shochu kasu (5%) on orotic acid-induced fatty liver were studied in rats. Liver triglyceride content of orotic acid-fed rats increased by 5-fold in comparison to basal group. Shochu kasu reduced triglyceride content by two-third.

DIETARY FOOD FORTIFIED WITH OROTIC ACID AND LIVER FUNCTION [PDF]
The effects of dietary food fortified with orotic acid (1.0%) on liver function were studied in rats. The rats fed withorotic acid promoted liver triglyceride content markedly, that was 5-fold higher than that of the control.

The preparation and hydrolysis of 5-bromo-5,6-dihydro-orotic acid
The action of bromine on maleuric acid I gave 5-bromo-5,6-dihydro-orotic acid II. The structure of II was established by its various spectra, its elemental analysis and its chemical reactions. The reaction of II with sodium hydroxide was investigated.

The Strange Case of Orotic Acid: The Different Expression of Pyrimidines Biosynthesis in Healthy Males and Females. [PDF]
Orotic acid (OA) is an intermediate metabolite of pyrimidine nucleotide biosynthesis and represents a minor diet constituent. The measurement of urinary orotic acid is useful in confirming the diagnosis of hereditary metabolic diseases.

Biochemical testing and pathology reveal rare cause of pediatric acute liver failure: Hyperornithinemia-hyperammonemia-homocitrullinuria syndrome. [PDF]
Abstract Hyperornithinemia‐hyperammonemia‐homocitrullinuria (HHH) syndrome is a rare metabolic condition that can cause lethargy, ataxia, tachypnea, nausea, vomiting, seizures, coma, and acute liver failure. We present a 26‐month‐old female with acute liver failure who was diagnosed with HHH 1 week after admission. Histology revealed an acute hepatitic

The Role of Urea Cycle Functional Studies in Preclinical Research. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Inborn errors of metabolism affecting the urea cycle are rare severe conditions caused by impaired nitrogen detoxification, leading to hyperammonemia and neurological morbidity across a broad clinical spectrum. Current biochemical diagnostics largely rely on quantification of metabolites. While indispensable for diagnosis and acute management,

Lysinuric protein intolerance mimicking N-acetylglutamate synthase deficiency in a nine-year-old boy
We report a 9-year-old boy with lysinuric protein intolerance (LPI). He had developmental delay, short stature, failure to thrive, high-protein food aversion, hypothyroidism, growth hormone deficiency, features of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH),

Evaluation of a Targeted LC-MS/MS Assay for Clinical Quantification of Urinary Organic Acids. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) is the reference method for urine organic acid analysis but requires complex sample preparation and derivatization, limiting routine clinical use. We developed and validated a targeted Liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) method for quantifying urinary organic acids relevant to ...

Long-Term Follow-Up of Patients With Mitochondrial Carbonic Anhydrase VA Deficiency. A Case Report and Literature Review. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase VA (CA‐VA) deficiency is a rare inherited metabolic disorder caused by biallelic variants of the CA5A gene. It presents with hyperammonemia, lactic acidosis, and ketonuria, with or without hypoglycemia. We report the long‐term follow‐up of the first two reported cases of CA‐VA deficiency: a 16‐year‐old female ...

MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF ACTION OF MAGNESIUM OROTATE ON CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
Orotic acid is one of the intermediates in the pyrimidine biosynthesis. Mechanisms of physiological effects of orotic acid are poorly known. Analysis of data about these mechanisms is presented.
