Phase-contrast imaging with synchrotron hard X-ray reveals the effect of icariin on bone tissue morphology and microstructure in rabbits with early glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2023
Background: Phase-contrast imaging (PCI) with synchrotron hard X-ray was used to observe the changes in bone tissue morphology and microstructure in rabbit models of early glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), and to evaluate ...

The relationship between apolipoprotein genes polymorphisms and susceptibility to osteonecrosis of the femoral head: a meta-analysis

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2018
Background The objective of this study was to evaluate whether apolipoprotein gene polymorphisms confer susceptibility to osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH).

Polymer Scaffolds-Enhanced Bone Regeneration in Osteonecrosis Therapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Osteonecrosis without effective early treatment eventually leads to the collapse of the articular surface and causes arthritis. For the early stages of osteonecrosis, core decompression combined with bone grafting, is a procedure worthy of attention and ...

A Dual‐Responsive Versatile Nanohybrid Orchestrating Tumor Elimination and Tumor‐Associated Osteolysis Restoration via Sequential Release

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The versatile CaO2@CuMOF@HAP nanohybrid demonstrates an outstanding MMP9/pH‐triggered release performance for sequential release of osteogenic growth peptide into deep‐seated tumor‐infiltrated bone destruction areas and dual ions into tumor cells, enabling efficient tumor‐associated osteolysis restoration and tumor elimination for more comprehensive ...

Genetic Contribution to Asthma Informs Acute Chest Syndrome Pathophysiology and Risk Stratification

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute chest syndrome (ACS) is a severe complication of sickle cell disease (SCD) occurring in ~50% of patients, some presenting frequent episodes. We lack tools to identify patients at high risk of ACS occurrence or frequent episodes. Epidemiological studies have found an association between asthma and ACS, but whether this link is causal is ...

Prescribing of Medication to Prevent Glucocorticoid Harms in Patients With Polymyalgia Rheumatica: A Cross‐Sectional Study and Two Emulated Target Trials in the Clinical Practice Research Datalink Aurum

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a common indication for long‐term glucocorticoid (GC) treatment. Bone‐protective and gastroprotective medications are recommended for those at high risk of adverse events from GCs, but no trials have evaluated their effectiveness in PMR.

Existing hip joint disease is associated with an increased incidence of hip fracture in adults: A retrospective survey of 9710 individuals from a single center

open access: yesHeliyon
Objective: In hip disease patients, pain and movement restrictions might cause changes in bone strength and increase the likelihood of falls, finally leading to hip fracture.

Knee osteonecrosis incidence from two real-world data sources

open access: yesOsteoarthritis and Cartilage Open, 2021
Background: Anti-nerve growth factor (NGF) has shown promise for osteoarthritis (OA) pain efficacy, but an unanticipated joint safety signal occurred in trials.

2D copper nanozyme patches facilitate bone regeneration via interfacial modulation of osteoclast‐osteoblast dynamics

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This study develops a nano‐enzyme patch (ezPatch) targeting bone interfaces. Utilizing ligand‐to‐metal charge transfer (LMCT) catalysis and bone‐targeting ligands on copper nanosheets, ezPatch simultaneously scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and generates oxygen in situ at bone‐losing sites.
