Osteoprotegerin Is a New Regulator of Inflammation and Angiogenesis in Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy.

open access: yesInvestigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, 2017
Purpose Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a novel regulator of endothelial cell function, angiogenesis, and vasculogenesis. We correlated expression levels of OPG with those of the angiogenic and inflammatory factors vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and ...

Circulating levels of osteoprotegerin and sRANKL and the effect of methotrexate in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Rheumatology, 2018
Background: Receptor activator of nuclear factor κβ ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) are pivotal molecules involved in osteoclast activation and resorption.

Nanosecond Laser‐Assisted Direct Integration of Whitlockite onto Bone Implant Surfaces for Enhanced Bone Regeneration

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
A laser‐assisted strategy enables the in situ formation of whitlockite coatings on bone implants through a magnesium calcium phosphate intermediate. This approach overcomes synthesis barriers, yielding bioactive surfaces that promote bone–implant integration and vascularization, offering a scalable route for next‐generation regenerative implants ...

Effect of anatomical location (mandible vs maxilla) of dental implants on the BMP-2, BMP-7, sRANKL and OPG levels in periimplant crevicular fluid during osseointegration. A pilot study

open access: yesSelcuk Dental Journal, 2019
Background:The aim of this study was to investigate levels of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2), BMP-7, soluble receptor activator of nuclear factor-kB ligand (sRANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) in the peri-implant crevicular fluid (PICF) of  implants ...

Osteoprotegerin Is more than a Possible Serum Marker in Liver Fibrosis: A Study into Its Function in Human and Murine Liver

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2020
Osteoprotegerin (OPG) serum levels are associated with liver fibrogenesis and have been proposed as a biomarker for diagnosis. However, the source and role of OPG in liver fibrosis are unknown, as is the question of whether OPG expression responds to ...

Deciphering epigenetic regulation in postmenopausal osteoporosis: Current and future perspectives

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
In this perspective, the significant roles of microRNAs, long noncoding RNAs and circular RNAs in postmenopausal osteoporosis are thoroughly expounded. The advantages and limitations of typical noncoding RNAs as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets are summarized and discussed.

A Novel Small Molecule Which Increases Osteoprotegerin Expression and Protects Against Ovariectomy-Related Bone Loss in Rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
The ratio of osteoprotegerin (OPG) to the receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL) is a key determinant in the regulation of bone metabolism. The study was performed to screen novel anti-osteoporotic drugs regulating OPG/RANKL ratio and evaluate their ...

Piezo‐type mechanosensitive cation channel 1 in bone biomechanics and its multidimensional distribution characteristics in skeletal tissue

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
PIEZO1 is highly correlated with mechanical stimulation, controlling bone growth and remodeling, while showing specific distribution characteristics under distinct loads. Upon dialectical review, this manuscript proposes that PIEZO1 could serve as a target for osteoporosis and a quantitative indicator for monitoring bone health in real‐time.
