Exercise redox biochemistry:conceptual, methodological and technical recommendations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Exercise redox biochemistry is of considerable interest owing to its translational value in health and disease. However, unaddressed conceptual, methodological and technical issues complicate attempts to unravel how exercise alters redox homeostasis in ...

Electrophilic Selenium Catalysis with Electrophilic N-F Reagents as the Oxidants

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
A suitable oxidative system is crucial to electrophilic selenium catalysis (ESC). This short review offers the overview of recent development in ESC with electrophilic N-F reagents as the oxidants. Several highly selective transformations of alkenes such

Oxidant Gases [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1984
The acute and chronic action of the oxidant gases ozone, nitrogen dioxide and oxygen on the morphological appearance of cells of the alveolar and bronchiolar epithelium is reviewed. Type I cells of the alveolar and ciliated cells of the bronchiolar epithelium appear to be sensitive targets for the oxidant gases.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Cytochrome C oxidase Inhibition and Cold Plasma-derived Oxidants Synergize in Melanoma Cell Death Induction

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Despite striking advances in the treatment of metastasized melanoma, the disease is often still fatal. Attention is therefore paid towards combinational regimens.

Enhanced Oxidation and Thermal Shock Resistance of N‐type Mg2Si0.89(Sn0.1,Sb0.01) Thermoelectric Material via Cr0.9Si0.1 Coating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cr0.9Si0.1 protective coatings are developed to enhance the thermal‐shock and oxidation resistance of Mg2Si0.89(Sn0.1,Sb0.01) thermoelectric (TE) materials. The coating forms a dense and adherent barrier that suppresses oxygen diffusion and mitigates mechanical degradation during cyclic oxidation, demonstrating its potential to improve the long‐term ...

Seasonal variations of atmospheric C2-C7 nonmethane hydrocarbons in Tokyo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Eighteen C2-C7 NMHCs (nonmethane hydrocarbons) were measured hourly during the Integrated Measurement Program for Aerosol and Oxidant Chemistry in Tokyo (IMPACT) measurement campaigns conducted in central Tokyo during four different periods (summer ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

A Metadata Analysis of Oxidative Stress Etiology in Preclinical Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: Benefits of Antioxidant Therapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
Oxidative stress, induced by an imbalance of free radicals, incites neurodegeneration in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In fact, a mutation in antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) accounts for 20% of familial ALS cases.
