Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Dose‐dependent hepatotoxicity of hydrogen peroxide in HepG2 cells and its modulation by CYP450 induction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NMR metabolomics revealed concentration‐dependent metabolic perturbations in HepG2 cells exposed to H2O2. Rifampicin pretreatment enhanced metabolic competence, attenuated toxin‐induced alterations and produced metabolite profiles more consistent with human liver physiology, supporting the use of CYP450‐induced HepG2 models for improved in vitro ...

Endogenous Oxidants and Antioxidants in Human Body

open access: yesZdorovʹe Rebenka, 2014
The review presents general modern conception of endogenous oxidants and antioxidant system in human body, shows their participation in non-specific protection of the body against infectious agents.

Delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins in mice using cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection in mice for delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins. A critical limitation of DNA vaccines and other therapeutics is transfection in vivo to produce the encoded antigens or therapeutic proteins. Cutaneous suction‐based methods have demonstrated effectiveness in many animal models and have been successfully ...

Antibodies Against Anti-Oxidant Enzymes in Autoimmune Glomerulonephritis and in Antibody-Mediated Graft Rejection

open access: yesAntioxidants
Historically, oxidants have been considered mechanisms of glomerulonephritis, but a direct cause–effect correlation has never been demonstrated. Several findings in the experimental model of autoimmune conditions with renal manifestations point to the up-

Effect of nonsurgical periodontal therapy on the level of salivary antioxidants in patients with generalized moderate-to-severe chronic periodontitis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, 2019
Background. In the course of periodontal diseases, polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) produce oxidative agents and free radicals, thus triggering oxidant-antioxidant disequilibrium in the saliva.

De novo synthesis of short‐chain aldehydes and hydrocarbons secreted by the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, mainly secretes 4‐oxo‐(E)‐2‐hexenal, (E)‐2‐decenal, dodecane and tridecane, a mixture representative of that released by many heteropterans. We demonstrated that H. halys can synthesise these secretory components de novo using dietary glucose.

Levothyroxine Replacement Improves Oxidative Status in Primary Hypothyroidism

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2018
Objective: Although hypothyroidism has been linked to oxidative stress, data regarding the relationship between thyroid hormone levels and oxidative stress is still inconsistent. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of levothyroxine replacement

Marked Long‐Term Improvement in Lung Function in Melanoma Differentiation–Associated Protein 5 Antibody–Positive Dermatomyositis Patients: Experience of a Single‐Center Longitudinal Cohort in North America

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective of this study was to describe the longitudinal disease course and pulmonary outcomes of North American patients with melanoma differentiation–associated protein 5 (MDA5) antibody–associated dermatomyositis (DM). Methods Thirty patients with MDA5 antibody–associated DM were identified in a single‐center longitudinal cohort of 352
