Porous silica spheres as indoor air pollutant scavengers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Porous silica spheres were investigated for their effectiveness in removing typical indoor air pollutants, such as aromatic and carbonyl-containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and compared to the commercially available polymer styrene ...

Synthesis and Biological Activity of Novel O-Alkyl Derivatives of Naringenin and Their Oximes

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
O-Alkyl derivatives of naringenin (1a–10a) were prepared from naringenin using the corresponding alkyl iodides and anhydrous potassium carbonate. The resulting products were used to obtain oximes (1b–10b).

The two-photon reversible reaction of the bistable jumping spider rhodopsin-1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Bistable opsins are photopigments expressed in both invertebrates and vertebrates. These light-sensitive G-protein-coupled receptors undergo a reversible reaction upon illumination.

Biocatalytic Synthesis of Isoxazolines Enabled by Cryptic Nitrile Oxide Formation by a Vanadium‐Dependent Chloroperoxidase

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The vanadium‐dependent haloperoxidase (VHPO) class of enzymes has been shown to catalyze cryptic nitrile oxide generation in an oxidative [3+2] cycloaddition reaction between aldoximes and alkenes to generate isoxazolines. This biotechnology has been applied to a chemoenzymatic sequence starting from aldehydes through in situ condensation with ...

Mixed‐Functionalized Acylgermanes Result in Wavelength‐Controlled Fragmentation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Selective radical generation from PEG‐acylgermanes is achieved by controlling the used wavelength. Distinct aryl‐carbonyl units undergo wavelength‐dependent α‐cleavage, producing radicals with different reactivities. UV/Vis, TD‐DFT, and photo‐CIDNP spectroscopy confirm that small adjustments in light input directly dictate radical identity and ...

Indole diterpenoid natural products as the inspiration for new synthetic methods and strategies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Indole terpenoids comprise a large class of natural products with diverse structural topologies and a broad range of biological activities. Accordingly, indole terpenoids have and continue to serve as attractive targets for chemical synthesis.

Strategies Toward Accessing Enantioenriched (Hetero)Benzo‐Fused 5‐ and 6‐ Membered Rings via Intermolecular Carbometalation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The use of transition‐metal catalysts and design of chiral ligands have allowed chemists to access highly functionalized benzofused 5‐ and 6‐ membered rings in high yield and enantioselectivity. A common strategy used relies on an intermolecular carbometalation across alkynes and olefins, usually followed by a subsequent intramolecular carbometalation.

The Separation of Cobalt by Solvent Extraction Using Oxime-Amine Mixture System

open access: yesJournal of MMIJ, 2017
Extraction behavior of cobalt from sulfate media containing excess manganese by mixtures LIX63 and several amines was investigated. The addition of amines shifted cobalt extraction isotherm to higher pH region in all case.

Improving the mesomorphic behaviour of supramolecular liquid crystals by resonance-assisted hydrogen bonding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A systematic structure-property relationship study on hydrogen-bonded liquid crystals was performed, revealing the impact of resonance-assisted hydrogen bonds (RAHBs) on the self-assembling behavior of the supramolecular architecture.

Solar‐Driven Ammonia Synthesis From Nitrate Reduction Paired With CO2 Capture for Sustainable Agriculture via a Robust CuPd Heterojunction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Laser‐assisted synthesis of CuPd amorphous/crystalline heterojunction demonstrates >80% Faradaic efficiency for nitrate‐to‐ammonia electroreduction across wide potential windows. The integrated solar‐powered electrolyzer achieves 6% solar‐to‐ammonia energy efficiency at 0.4 sun, 6–20 mg h−1 CO2 capture rate, and stability exceeding 100 h.
