Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Polarizable Vanadium Dipoles Promote Water Dissociation on Vanadium‐Based Metal Organic Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The polarization of unpaired V 3d electrons weakens the H─O bond to improve water dissociation by the dual Vδ+:O─H and Pλ−:H─O coupling hydrogen bonds formation and relaxation. P@V‐MOF electrocatalyst shows low overpotentials (94 mV in acid, 178 mV in neutral, and 77 mV in alkaline solutions) with excellent stability for effective overall water ...

Gross Antioxidant Capacity and Anti-Inflammatory Potential of Flavonol Oxidation Products: A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study

open access: yesAntioxidants
This study evaluated the antioxidant capacity of the oxidation products of three flavonols using oxygen radical absorbance capacity—fluorescein assay (ORAC-FL), oxygen radical absorbance capacity—pyrogallol red assay (ORAC-PGR), and the cellular ...

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Control and comparison of the antioxidant capacity of beers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The purpose of the present work is to determine the antioxidant capacity (AC) of 27 commercial beers. The AC indicates the degree of protection of a certain organism against oxidative damage provoked by reactive oxygen and nitrogen species.

Determination of Superoxide Radical Scavenging Activity and Total Antioxidant Capacity by Modified DMPD Method

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research in Natural and Applied Sciences
Among the reactive oxygen species, Superoxide radicals can produce dangerous species that cause lipid peroxidation. Therefore, the determination and scavenging of superoxide radicals is critical.
