Oxylipin metabolism in response to stress

Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2002
Oxylipins comprise a group of biologically active compounds whose structural diversity is generated by the coordinate action of lipases, lipoxygenases, and a group of cytochromes P450 that are specialized for the metabolism of hydroperoxy fatty acids. Research on oxylipins has focused mainly on the biosynthesis of the plant signaling molecule jasmonic ...

Biosynthesis of oxylipins in non-mammals

Progress in Lipid Research, 2009
Lipid peroxidation is common to all biological systems, appearing in developmentally-regulated processes and as a response to environmental changes. Products derived from lipid peroxidation are collectively named oxylipins. Initial lipid peroxidation may either occur by enzymatic or chemical reactions.

Oxylipins and plant abiotic stress resistance

Biochemistry (Moscow), 2014
Oxylipins are signaling molecules formed enzymatically or spontaneously from unsaturated fatty acids in all aerobic organisms. Oxylipins regulate growth, development, and responses to environmental stimuli of organisms. The oxylipin biosynthesis pathway in plants includes a few parallel branches named after first enzyme of the corresponding branch as ...

Oxylipins from marine invertebrates

2005
Marine invertebrates are a surprisingly rich source of oxidized fatty acid-derived substances known as oxylipins. They occur in many phyla of marine invertebrates, including Porifera, Coelenterata, Crustacea, Mollusca, Echinodermata, and Urochordata.

Bioprospecting for novel oxylipins in fungi: The presence of 3-hydroxy oxylipins in Pilobolus

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 2001
As previously found in various members of the Mucorales, 3-hydroxy oxylipins in Mucor genevensis are associated with the sporangia, i.e. mainly the columella structure and between aggregating sporangiospores. To determine if this phenomenon is also true in distantly related members, the mucoralean fungus Pilobolus was examined.

Biosynthesis and analysis of plant oxylipins

Free Radical Research, 2015
The term oxylipin is applied to the generation of oxygenated products of polyunsaturated fatty acids that can arise either through non-enzymatic or enzymatic processes generating a complex array of products, including alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, acids and hydrocarbon gases.
