A quantitative LC-MS/MS method for analysis of mitochondrial -specific oxysterol metabolism

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2020
Oxysterols are critical regulators of inflammation and cholesterol metabolism in cells. They are oxidation products of cholesterol and may be differentially metabolised in subcellular compartments and in biological fluids.

An Australian standard of care for Niemann–Pick disease type C

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Niemann–Pick disease type C (NP‐C) is the fifth most prevalent lysosomal disorder in Australia. Diagnostic delay is common, impacted by disease heterogeneity, limited awareness within clinical gateway services and exclusion from state‐based newborn screening programmes.

Unravelling the biochemical aspects of the interaction between ticks and Leishmania using a tick cell line

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Leishmania infantum propagated in IDE8 tick cell line in vitro. L. infantum reduces tick cell viability and induces reactive oxygen species production. Lipidic profile of IDE8 tick cell line is altered during Leishmania infection. Abstract Leishmaniasis comprises a group of vector‐borne neglected tropical diseases caused by species of the obligatory ...

Functional Segregation of Pancreatic Microcirculation Reveals Sex‐Dependent Microhemodynamic Signatures

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
Pancreatic exocrine microcirculation exhibits sexual dimorphism arising from steroid–genetic interactions. Laser Doppler flowmetry combined with wavelet analysis identifies a male passive coupling phenotype aligned with systemic pressure and a female active vasomotion phenotype driven by ERβ‐mediated, NO‐dependent oscillations.

Involvement of 27-Hydroxycholesterol in Mitotane Action on Adrenocortical Carcinoma

open access: yesCells, 2020
Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare cancer with poor prognosis. Mitotane, the standard treatment for ACC, impairs adrenocortical steroid biosynthesis and cholesterol metabolism.

Steroid Recognition in Adhesion GPCRs: A Structural and Pharmacological Perspective

open access: yesPharmacology Research &Perspectives, Volume 14, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Emerging evidence suggests steroids may act as generalizable ligands for adhesion GPCRs, a receptor class with considerable pharmacological potential. While most studies have focused on the ADGR‘G' subfamily, recent cryo‐EM structures of the androgens 5α‐dihydrotestosterone (5α‐DHT) and methenolone bound to ADGRD1 revealed a putative steroid ...

Are side-chain oxidized oxysterols regulators also in vivo?

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2009
Oxsterols are oxygenated metabolites of cholesterol that are short-lived intermediates or end products in cholesterol excretion pathways. They are present in very low concentrations in mammalian systems, always accompanied by a high excess of cholesterol.

Challenges facing the management of pesticide resistance in weeds, diseases and insect pests in European agriculture and the future of effective IPM implementation

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 4, Page 2838-2843, April 2026.
Opinion on pesticide resistance and management in the European Union (EU) and United Kingdom (UK) is presented cognisant of changes in regulation that impact on mode of action availability and cropping system choice. Abstract In recent times, pesticide resistance has been managed reasonably effectively, either proactively or reactively, by monitoring ...

Cholesterol oxidation: Health hazard and the role of antioxidants in prevention

open access: yesBiological Research, 2003
Cholesterol is a molecule with a double bond in its structure and is therefore susceptible to oxidation leading to the formation of oxysterols. These oxidation products are found in many commonly-consumed foods and are formed during their manufacture and/
