Not All Children Are the Same: Differences in the Microbiome Assembly During Early Development of Seaweeds

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 9, September 2026.
Understanding how early microbiomes assemble is central to explaining the ecology and evolution of host–microbe interactions. Comparing three macroalgal species, we show that hosts differ markedly in how they retain parental bacteria and filter environmental taxa during their early development.
