Neurotoxicity induces cleavage of p35 to p25 by calpain
Nature, 2000Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (cdk5) and its neuron-specific activator p35 are required for neurite outgrowth and cortical lamination. Proteolytic cleavage of p35 produces p25, which accumulates in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Conversion of p35 to p25 causes prolonged activation and mislocalization of cdk5.

p35 interacts with α‐tubulin and organelle proteins: Nuclear translocation of p35 in dying cells
Proteomics, 2009AbstractWe identified heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) C1/C2, hnRNP A1, the translocase of the transporter outer membrane 40 (TOM40), and α‐tubulin as new interaction partners of anti‐apoptotic protein p35 using MS‐based functional proteomics with GST‐p35 fusion protein as a bait, and using a pull‐down assay with p35‐6His followed by ...

The aspartate-specific caspases play a pivotal role in the execution of programmed cell death and therefore constitute important targets for the control of apoptosis. Upon ectopic expression, baculovirus P35 inhibits apoptosis in phylogenetically diverse organisms by suppressing the proteolytic activity of the cellular caspases in a cleavage-dependent ...

The p35/CDK5 signaling is regulated by p75NTR in neuronal apoptosis after intracerebral hemorrhage
Journal of Cellular Physiology, 2019The p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR), a member of tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, involves in neuronal apoptosis after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).

Regulation of membrane association and kinase activity of Cdk5–p35 by phosphorylation of p35
Journal of Neuroscience Research, 2007AbstractAlthough protein kinase Cdk5–p35 is important in many aspects of the development and function of the central nervous system, relatively little is known about its regulation. In the present study, we examined the relationship between the association of this kinase with membranes and its activity in perinatal and adult rat brains.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (cdk5) is involved in the development of the nervous system and neuronal process outgrowth, and it regulates several intracellular processes including cytoskeletal dynamics. Dysregulation of cdk5 has been implicated in many disorders of the nervous system.

The structure of the neutron-rich N=20 nucleus P35 has been investigated through nucleon transfer experiments using the 208Pb(36,Xγ) reaction at 230 MeV. The level structure, of mainly 1 ω excitations in P35, has been significantly expanded. The measurements are compared with shell model calculations.
