Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Miniature Fiber-Optic Magnetic Field Sensor Based on Ampere Force and Fiber Laser
A compact fiber-optic magnetic field sensor is proposed by packaging an orthogonal dual-frequency fiber grating laser and a copper wire with alternating electrical current together inside epoxy resin.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Design and Fabrication of Toroidal Inductors for Mixed Signal Packaging
The demand for efficient, lightweight consumer products created the need for miniaturization of passive components especially inductors which are some of the bulkiest parts of an integrated system.

Quorum sensing : understanding the role of bacteria in meat spoilage [PDF]
Quorum sensing is a fundamental process to all of microbiology since it is ubiquitous in the bacterial world, where bacterial cells communicate with each other using low molecular weight signal molecules called autoinducers.

AAV gene replacement therapy for treating MPS IIIC: Facilitating bystander effects via EV‐mRNA cargo
MPS IIIC is a lysosomal storage disease caused by mutations in heparan‐α‐glucosaminide N‐acetyltransferase (HGSNAT), for which no treatment is available.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Demonstration of +100-GHz Interconnects in eWLB Packaging Technology
This paper presents waveguide interconnects implemented in an embedded wafer level ball grid array (eWLB) packaging technology. The interconnects operate at D-band (110–170 GHz), hence are enabling the realization and commercialization of high-data-rate ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
