Lipid raft microdomain compartmentalization of TC10 is required for insulin signaling and GLUT4 translocation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Recent studies indicate that insulin stimulation of glucose transporter (GLUT)4 translocation requires at least two distinct insulin receptor-mediated signals: one leading to the activation of phosphatidylinositol 3 (PI-3) kinase and the other to the ...

S-Palmitoylation of Synaptic Proteins in Neuronal Plasticity in Normal and Pathological Brains

open access: yesCells, 2023
Protein lipidation is a common post-translational modification of proteins that plays an important role in human physiology and pathology. One form of protein lipidation, S-palmitoylation, involves the addition of a 16-carbon fatty acid (palmitate) onto ...

Palmitoylation-dependent protein sorting [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Cell Biology, 2007
S-palmitoylation is a posttranslational modification that regulates membrane–protein interactions. However, palmitate is more than just a hydrophobic membrane anchor, as many different types of protein are palmitoylated, including transmembrane proteins. Indeed, there is now compelling evidence that palmitoylation plays a key role in regulating various

Protein palmitoylation plays an important role in Trichomonas vaginalis adherence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The flagellated protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis is the etiologic agent of trichomoniasis, the most common non-viral sexually transmitted infection worldwide.

Protein palmitoylation and cancer [PDF]

open access: yesEMBO reports, 2018
Protein S-palmitoylation is a reversible post-translational modification that alters the localization, stability, and function of hundreds of proteins in the cell. S-palmitoylation is essential for the function of both oncogenes (e.g., NRAS and EGFR) and tumor suppressors (e.g., SCRIB, melanocortin 1 receptor).

S-palmitoylation of MAP kinase is essential for fungal virulence

open access: yesmBio
S-palmitoylation is an important reversible protein post-translational modification in organisms. However, its role in fungi is uncertain. Here, we found the treatment of the rice false fungus Ustilaginoidea virens with S-palmitoylation inhibitor 2 BP ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Molecular architecture of Gαo and the structural basis for RGS16-mediated deactivation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Heterotrimeric G proteins relay extracellular cues from heptahelical transmembrane receptors to downstream effector molecules. Composed of an α subunit with intrinsic GTPase activity and a βγ heterodimer, the trimeric complex dissociates upon receptor ...

Cholesterol‐DNA Origami Nanostructures for Synthetic Lipid Rafts Induce Early T Cell Activation Signals

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Here, we present a nanotechnology approach to construct synthetic lipid rafts on the live T cell membrane, leveraging a versatile DNA origami‐enabled platform named as the “cholesterol nano‐patch” (CNP). Our investigation highlights the effectiveness of DNA nanotechnology in exploring the impact of nanoscale arrangement of cholesterols on the ...

Insulin regulates lymphatic endothelial integrity via palmitoylation

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research
Lipid metabolism plays a critical role in lymphatic endothelial cell (LEC) development and vessel maintenance. Altered lipid metabolism is associated with loss of lymphatic vessel integrity, which compromises organ function, protective immunity, and ...
