Cardiac sodium channel palmitoylation regulates channel availability and myocyte excitability with implications for arrhythmia generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cardiac voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav1.5) play an essential role in regulating cardiac electric activity by initiating and propagating action potentials in the heart.

Insulin regulates lymphatic endothelial integrity via palmitoylation

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research
Lipid metabolism plays a critical role in lymphatic endothelial cell (LEC) development and vessel maintenance. Altered lipid metabolism is associated with loss of lymphatic vessel integrity, which compromises organ function, protective immunity, and ...

RIG‐I Mediated Neuron‐Specific IFN Type 1 Signaling in FUS‐ALS Induces Neurodegeneration and Offers New Biomarker‐Driven Individualized Treatment Options for (FUS‐)ALS

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using iPSC‐derived motoneurons and postmortem tissue from FUS‐ALS patients, it is demonstrated that increased mitochondrial transcription leads to elevated cytosolic double‐stranded RNA (dsRNA) levels. This aberrant accumulation activates a RIG‐I–dependent innate immune response leading to neurodegeneration, which is amenable for FDA‐ and EMA‐approved ...

An Amphipathic α-Helix Directs Palmitoylation of the Large Intracellular Loop of the Sodium/Calcium Exchanger [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The electrogenic sodium/calcium exchanger (NCX) mediates bidirectional calcium transport controlled by the transmembrane sodium gradient. NCX inactivation occurs in the absence of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate and is facilitated by palmitoylation

Rescue of aberrant huntingtin palmitoylation ameliorates mutant huntingtin-induced toxicity

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2021
Huntington disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CAG expansion in the HTT gene that codes for an elongated polyglutamine tract in the huntingtin (HTT) protein.

SwissPalm: Protein Palmitoylation database [PDF]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2015
Protein S-palmitoylation is a reversible post-translational modification that regulates many key biological processes, although the full extent and functions of protein S-palmitoylation remain largely unexplored. Recent developments of new chemical methods have allowed the establishment of palmitoyl-proteomes of a variety of cell lines and tissues from

Cancer Cell‐Intrinsic Cholesterol Induces Lipid‐Associated Macrophage Differentiation via SP1 Palmitoylation to Promote Prostate Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cancer cell‐intrinsic cholesterol promotes the S‐palmitoylation of SP1, increasing its nuclear translocation and driving the transcription and secretion of MDK, which in turn facilitates the differentiation of macrophages into a lipid‐associated phenotype.

Chimeric glutamate receptor subunits reveal the transmembrane domain is sufficient for NMDA receptor pore properties but some positive allosteric modulators require additional domains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
NMDA receptors are ligand-gated ion channels that underlie transmission at excitatory synapses and play an important role in regulating synaptic strength and stability.

Palmitoylation‐Mediated Ubiquitination of SRPK1 Regulates Ferroptosis in High‐Fat‐Induced Erectile Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Elevated exogenous palmitic acid promotes the S‐palmitoylation of SRPK1 in endothelial cells, a dynamic process governed by ZDHHC24 and APT1. This post‐translational modification strengthens the interaction between SRPK1 and the E3 ubiquitin ligase MIB1, thereby facilitating the proteasomal degradation of SRPK1.

Characterisation and expression of β1-, β2- and β3-adrenergic receptors in the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This is the author’s version of a work that was accepted for publication in General and Comparative Endocrinology. Changes resulting from the publishing process, such as peer review, editing, corrections, structural formatting, and other quality control ...
